I'll have to grab another lens.
The bees have been prolific this year so far which is encouraging.

Beautiful shots. That's good news on the Bumblebees; sadly, they are now on the endangered species list here in the US.

thanks. Interesting comment re BB's. They're introduced here so not welcome in all quarters, but agriculturalists don't seem to mind what does the job for them.

I baited this honeybee with some sugar syrup to give her a reason to let me get close. Zucchini pollen is huge! This is a frame from 2009, and I'd like to recreate this shot with my current gear.

Tech Specs: Canon 40D (F13, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (around 3x) + a diffused MT-24EX (both flash heads on the Canon flash mount, E-TTL metering). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held.

Male of Megachile (Chalicodoma) parietina.

Technique: After photographing this mason bee in my lavender I turned it loose in a plant on my patio while I went to have lunch. Evidently the little guy got active and had lunch as well, because this is how I found him later on that same afternoon. This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. I used an artificial flower to keep the background from being black.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (over 3x) + a diffused MT-24EX (both flash heads on the Canon flash mount, E-TTL metering).

Sorry I should have been clearer - I meant to ask, how did you get the 100 photos that you stacked, particularly from such a moving subject?

Well he is not alive, he's mounted on a insect pin. camera on a Stack Shot unit............that should clear it up

Thanks For looking.....Darrell C

Good start. Here on the top side they are disappearing fast with the arrival of Autumn, so it's good to see someone from down under post since your critters are just beginning to stir. :-)

Please don't be offended but it is a bit out of focus. The trick is to look at the hairs on the beast, concentrating on the head area because one isn't going to get the entire bee in focus without stacking. Compare some of the other posts with yours and I think you will see the difference in detail.

Keep at it, but above all have fun doing it. Lee

I'am not offended at all and yes the detail in others images is spectacular I did hesitate in putting images here but with information from you and others I hope to improve my shots Thanks

Why did you use the settings that you did? I think you need f11 at least.
