Here are a couple of wider shots, showing Australian Native Stingless Bees swarming over the pollen pickings and the larger European honeybee (I think?).

Cheers

It rained this afternoon and when it stopped I went looking for something to shoot and found this waterlogged male Red Mason Bee in a flower covered in pollen.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (almost 4x to 5x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering with -1/3 FEC). These are single, uncropped, frames taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI, Denoise AI, and Clarity in that order.

There was a lot of stuff in the foreground and background that I thought was distracting, so I took the magnification up to five times life size to try and isolate this emerging male Blue Mason Bee's face.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (5x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering with -1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI, Denoise AI, and Clarity in that order.

The tricky part about shooting this emerging Blue Mason Bee was that it was in motion and I wanted to get those antenna in focus.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (over 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering with -1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI, Denoise AI, and Clarity in that order.

After this male Blue Mason Bee emerged it climbed onto my hand to get warm, so I carried it to a Sourgrass Flower. After a minute or so it cleaned itself off, took a hit of the flower's nectar, and flew off.

While walking through my yard looking for something to shoot this Honeybee landed on my shoulder. Not sure why its metabolism tanked, but it was enough for me to coax it onto a finger and photograph it feeding on some sugar syrup.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (almost 3x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering with -1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI, Denoise AI, and Clarity in that order.

The more I look at this honeybee the more I think that she got caught out in the open over night and when it landed on my shoulder it was starving. I coaxed it onto a Sourgrass flower just so I'd have an interesting platform to photograph it on, but to my surprise she started feeding on it. I carefully pealed back a few petals so could get her eye in the frame. No need to bait her with sugar syrup for this one, she was more hungry than afraid.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (around 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering with -1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI, Denoise AI, and Clarity in that order.

I've been planting my yard to attract more critters and this Hairy Footed Bee is a new visitor.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (3x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering with -1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI, Denoise AI, and Clarity in that order.

I put this semi-active Hairy Footed Bee on a flower and when it would pause I'd look for a composition.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (2x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering with -1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI, Denoise AI, and Clarity in that order.

After months of laying dormant this Blue Mason Bee chews its way out of its cocoon.

The original, multi-chamber Wasps' Nest was destroyed when the fragile twiglet broke off at the knuckle joint, so the resilient guys just started building another, closer to the main stem of the Sacred Bamboo Plant.

Cheers

Dennis
