Before sundown I went for a walk in my yard to see if I could find something to point the camera at and I spotted this European Wool Carder Bee snoozing in one of my Sunflowers.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (over 3x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Denoise AI, Sharpen AI, and Clarity in that order.

Colletes - Plasterer, possibly Daviesanus. Chilling in the breeze under a cloudy sky. So I was able to grab hold of the flower it was on and get up close.
These little beauties can collect a prodigious quantity of pollen.

Beautiful capture as always.
Anyone that isn’t impressed with your photos just hasn’t tried taking 3x photos handheld in the field. :)

Thanks :)

Your comment gave me a chuckle cause I didn't want to damage the sunflower so I shot the bee in place and was actually holding the rig over my head. Lucky to walk away with anything to post.

If taking single frames at high mag hand held, and getting as much depth as most focus stacks, was easy then everyone would be doing it... ;)

I watched this Mining Bee foraging for pollen in a Sunflower and tried to predict where it was going to be and the angle I needed to get as much depth as possible. Then I focused on an anther and waited for her to start stripping out the pollen. She was moving so fast I could only get one shot before I had to set up on another anther. Lots of deleted frames.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (2x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Denoise AI, Sharpen AI, and Clarity in that order.

Nope, even if it was easy I don't think many could carry it off with the same results as you. :)

I am only just finding my feet with macro photography at the moment. I am using a Yongnuo YN24EX ETTL Macro Flash. I am finding I am not getting enough light inside the flower - any advice appreciated? Perhaps I just need to adjust my flash heads to a better position. This is the first shot I have managed to get the head in focus as I tend to panic when I see the bee turning around in the flower to make its way out.

I have the flash set to zero compensation and shooting at F11 with ISO 500 (this is on auto) with shutter speed of 1/200. I had 2 extension tubes (20 + 12) on my Canon 100mm Macro

Try changing the position, do you have a diffuser of any type?

Thank you for the advice. Yes I have some 3d printed diffusers that sit on the flash heads. Note I am taking my photos handheld - it is just on the tripod so I can take a photo of it:)
