Hmm, there are a few bees in this shot.;-)a

The flowering plant is a Grass Tree (Xanthorrhoea australis), a distinctive looking, slow-growing plant, ranging from those without visible trunks, to tree-like specimens up to 6 metres high.

I came across this flowering specimen in our local forest, Toohey Forest and noticed that it was enjoying a constant stream of visitors. I took 20 frames, tripod mounted, over a period of 26 secs. Back home, I loaded all the frames into in PS CC, then performed an Edit-Align then Edit-Blend and the insects on each frame all rose to the top frame, consolidating the 26 secs of activity into a single frame.

Cheers

Dennis

I put a few drops of Agave Nectar on a zucchini flower to give this honeybee a reason to let me get close. This image works as is, or turned to the left for a portrait.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/100, ISO 200) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (2x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering with -1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Denoise AI and Clarity in that order. The sharpening built into Denoise AI looked so good I used it to sharpen this photo.

I'm posting this here because it looks like a type of bee. These things did not sit still at all. Also quite windy so had to hold the plants with one hand. Any help with ID would be appreciated. Thank you.

I found my Paper Wasps snoozing quite peacefully and so was able to rattle off 40 frames using the Helicon FB Tube. It was nice not having to manually clone out wayward antennae or moving legs.:-)

Aligned and Stacked in Helicon Soft and finished in PS CC.

Cheers

Dennis

It looks like a Bald-Faced hornet, perhaps a juvi? You might want to check around your property for their spherical, gray nest. Like most, they can be aggressive if their nest is threatened. I have had nests and just stayed away from them until they were abandoned in the Fall.

Thank you for the ID. So funny! When you look at the credits for this article it states a student from Penn State, New Kensington campus. That school is about 30 minutes from me. I need to start trying to idea things myself before I bother others.

A little Lasioglossum in the garden today.
Nippy little blighters so not the sharpest images.
