That rainbow specular highlight, noticeable in the bee's eye, is caused by natural light and motion while the shutter was open. To avoid it try to shade the subject.

Funny you mention that. I was out this morning playing with the flash & thought about a small 12 inch pop up scrim I have that would have worked well holding above subject & my rig.

Thank you for the proper ID. I feel the same way about jumping spiders. The ones here in the US boring in comparison to many other species around the world.

Nope, it's a type of Seat Bee -thousands of different species. Envious of anyone who lives in an area with the metallic ones. Mine look ordinary in comparison.

WTF! I was shooting a couple different bees when I saw this one hanging from a flower. It was very cooperative, letting me get close. I turned away to make camera adjustments. When I looked back, it just fell to the ground.

The Paper Wasp community in our Sacred Bamboo Shrub kept nice and still this morning and I was able to rattle off a 40 frame series with the Helicon FB Tube to extend the depth of focus.:-)

Stacked in Helicon Focus and finished in PS CC.

Cheers

Dennis
