I spotted this wasp carrying something in the garden as it flew past but fortunately it landed on the railings. It looked like a bit of a caterpillar

Thanks John - yes the sunflowers do tend to make everything go rather yellow.

Acts like a yellow bounce card, and the light is about 1 stop less than the light that hit the subject when it bounces back into the critter. Can be quite tricky, but it looks like you handled it really well (good flash to subject angle).

Another bee in my sunflower. I am starting to worry that all the critters will disappear soon with Autumn and Winter ahead here in the UK. This is my first real endeavour into macro photography so wonder if there will be any critters to photography in Autumn and Winter. Perhaps it is time for me to photograph spiders

Haha, I haven't seen one of those for a long time but imagine they would look rather cool. Watch this space for woodlice in the next few months. I have read about people buying dead insects off Ebay to photograph but all the dead insects I have found just don't do it for me. I quite like the alive look

Do you have Silverfish? Fascinating creatures when they're not eating all the paper :-(

Beautiful photos PSteven. Very nice

I have never heard of Silverfish - I will have to Google them.

And thank you the kind words on my photos

I also prefer live critters but I do save some dead ones I find so I can have a play at focus stacking over the winter. There are just some shots you will not get if the critter is alive.

Look under any piece of wood in the ground and there are loads.
BTW you can now in urban heat islands in the UK find bumblebees in December and January.
Here is one I took 29th December outskirts of London - the important thing is that it must be sunny - rain is a no no

and on the 12th January

I think these are Colletes Bees (pos C. Daviensanus), found a little colony in my front garden. Not sure what the neighbours thought of me laying across the pavement. :-)

They are fine looking bees. Ha, my neighbours must see me out their window staring into the hedge for hours and think I am a bit mad.

Another frame of a Bumblebee that I took earlier this year at my sister in law's house. I was shooting at sunrise when the critters are still lethargic.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 200) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (set to over 3x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Denoise AI and Clarity in that order.

Went out looking for bees today, but it was a bit blustery so the flowers were gyrating like whirling dervishes. However, the 5D Mk IV AF did a good job on those it managed to lock onto.:-)

Cheers

Dennis
