Excellent detail - thanks for sharing! I'm a little surprised that I haven't seen too many emerging Bombus queens (only a few bimaculatus - which doesn't seem to be what you have). I have a goal of improving my bumblebee ID skills this year (and seeing several new species). They're wonderful pollinators.

It's macro because it was captured with a macro lens :)
Dark edged bee-fly (Bombylius major) in flight/hovering. Closest I could get without sending it off in a huff..
I looked like a right idiot in the middle of the park, pointing my camera at apparently empty space :p
