Evening all,

Apologies if this is in the wrong section but I didn't know quite where to post this.

So, took a long drive out this evening with the Canon 5D mkIII, and when I turned it on, it made a strange click. When I went to look through the viewfinder, it was completely dark and cannot see anything.

The camera appears to take a picture and it shows upon the LCD, but I cannot see a thing through the viewfinder.

Any ideas?

TIA

Possibly John. Been doing a bit of googling and some say this could be it.

Any idea where i'd go from here if it is?

Yes. Disable it. The user manual will tell you how.

Ah right. Cheers for that John.

Think I was getting confused with what i's read.

I think possibly the mirror itself may have dropped according to google searching

Have you removed the lens to see if the mirror is in the correct position?

John is right about removing the lens to show whether or not the mirror has dried. Sounds as if it should be a simple enough fix.

Something similar happened to my old 7D a while back. Turned out to be a dirty lens contact - have your checked the pins where the lens connects to the body for dirt and grime?

Hi Colin, when you say 'easy fix' do you mean for a repair centre as I personally would not have a clue where to put it back to and know it was then in the right place?

Cheers

I haven't Colin. If I 'cleaned' them, would it just be with a microfiber cloth?

Cheers

What position is this switch in? The mirror lockup is a setting in the menu as well.
