So my daughter has asked me about purchasing a camera that gives her a bit more flexibility for her when she travels. She lives in the NW and does a lot of camping/backpacking and honestly...takes some killer photos with her iPhone 8. She has a great eye but feels limited at times on the zoom features.
It's not a DSLR with big lenses she is wanting/needing due to size/weight limitations.
Have there been decent comparisons made with these newer iPhone cameras and then cameras like the G7X?
What would be a good suggestion for her?
Thanks
Tony I use Canon gear...have several bodies and lenses and am quite pleased with them.

I was curious so I checked out YT, and found something:
TL/DR I like the iPhone better for a few reasons
stabilization, hugely better than the g7x video in good light, the iPhone is simply better, and in low light, the g7x is better, but still poor. same with photos... it's waterproof it's always with you
If someone gave me the G7x, i'de probably stick with my iPhone 8.

The iPhone 7 Plus up to the X take amazing photos, especially in portrait mode but you really need to have optimal lighting conditions for the best results. A camera will start to show its superiority in lower light or bad lighting conditions which is obvious as the sensor in the iPhone is tiny. So it really depends where and how you will be using it.
Yeah..I have to agree with both of you on this as you confirm my suspicions. The shots she gets in her outings are breathtaking. I think she feels restricted when she wants a bit more reach. But I guess we can’t ‘have it all’ with a phone...for now ߘ

Consider some clip on lenses

I have a few and they seriously degrade photo quality. I haven't tried the expensive ones but at that point with the money spent and carrying around adapters, you might as well just buy a proper camera.
