I am a semi pro football (soccer) photographer working for an agency.

Currently I use Photomechanic and Lightroom for editing images pitchside.

I was wondering if I could use Photoshop instead of Lightroom as I prefer the noise reduction and sharpening in Photoshop (I have the Noiseware plugin in PS)

The agency require I send images to them like this .... SRGB, Jpeg, 300 pixels per inch, Long side 3000 pixels, Limit file size to 1,500k.

In Lightroom you can set up a preset to export as above.

Can this be achieved in Photoshop is my question?

Thanks
Simon. :-)

You can use "Save for Web" but it's a hell of a lot easier to use Lightroom.

Thanks,

I've just had a look at that but I can't see you can limit the file size to 1,500k though. :-)

Here you go. You can create a preset and export as many as you want at once.

If you still want to use Lightroom for organization or anything else, then you can always pop over to PS (or another editor) from LR using the “Edit In” command. Once you’re done in photoshop, just save the file and the changes will be synced back to LR where you can export, etc as you have been doing. Might be too cumbersome for tons of photos, but if it’s just a few here and there, then it could work fine.

Within the save for web, it does show a pretty accurate file size estimate at the lower left. If you're asking if there's a way to do a batch of photos in PS....I'd do it as a batch process with an associated custom made action. What you'd do is record an action with your preferred DPI/ resolution and then export with a jpeg size that's under 1.5MB. When you go and batch process, it gives you the option to use a custom action. I think the main thing you might have to reconfigure on a per batch process is your jpeg compression. Shooting in one scene may have either a small or large jpeg size (jpeg compression is dependent on how many colors are in the scene). One scene might have fairly limited colors and can be compressed well below 1.5MB....while another could have a lot of colors and may need a lot of compression to stay below 1.5MB.

You can use the image size command which is really good. PK Sharpener became free a several months ago. Used to be $100. Just like LR it lets you select size and media type. The PixelGenius group developed the export page for LR so the same process is applied.

The Automate > Image Processor option in Photoshop will do just about everything you need in a batch process....

The Automate > Image Processor option in Photoshop will do just about everything you need in a batch process....

Except auto-selecting the appropriate jpg compression for each exported jpg to be as close as possible to a set maximum file size, which is what the OP is getting from LR.

It has always seemed strange to me that Adobe didn't put this feature into Image Processor although when writing a single jpg in PS you can see a preview of the file size and manually adjust compression to produce a desired size. LR automates the process.

BTW, it's File>Scripts>Image Processor.

You could always get a plugin for LR. Doesn't that slow things down in both PS and LR?. Can you batch an NR plugin using both? When I tested them but it seemed like it was one at a time but I never really explored it.

Yes I know. I'm just as curious about batching 3rd party NR. I always thought it was just onesies. I guess you could create a script that opened images up one at a time but you would still have to click on each one to complete the process. Or are you OK with applying NR one at a time and looking for a way to batch for export at the end?

As for batch processing that was what I used to do for sharpening and resizing when I shot events. It has been a lot of years and I forgot how to do it. I used DPP as my main editor, exported As TIFFS and then to PS, did some final editing and then used a script I think to batch which was a nightmare. I got LR which made life much easier. My wife said the cursing went away after getting LR.

Just a quick search.
