It's been a while since I've seen one of these pretty devils, a Black and Yellow Garden Spider, (Argiope aurantia).
It was easy to find because it made the web on my screen door, & then it sat there between the web & the screen.
I thought that was a little strange & took a quick shot intending to come back when the light was better & maybe it will have moved outside the web so it would be easy to reach whatever landed there.

Canon 20D w/105mm Nikkor + a 1" extender. 1/200 f/16 ISO 400.

And today it still is. I looked out the window & the mantis is still hanging around.

Frank, your first shot is really a beautiful one, showing the pretty colors and patterns on the spider. The second shot emphasizes just how dangerous it is to be a spider or an insect. There is always something bigger, and stronger out there just looking for a meal.

LD, or Mike
Often mistaken, but never in doubt.

We have a similar species here in Europe, Argiope bruennichi (typically known as the wasp spider). It's in season now, and is also just as stunning to see. It eats a lot of grasshoppers and crickets, but is never averse to a bee or two as well!

Lovely capture Frank.

Considering that I was shooting through a screen, it came out much better than I expected it to. Thanks!
