An interesting read from Artsy:

Interesting. This quote stood out

The photographer noted that she can’t control how the public reacts—just how her pictures look

Sure, a photographer can't control how the public reacts but they can certainly predict a reaction. I have a hard time believing Laub didn't foresee some form of backlash for such a charged issue.

I agree photographers owe subjects a good picture, it's the least we can do.

Was an interesting read. Many will disagree, but I used to say: "Two people own the rights to a photograph, the photographer and the subject." I began giving away photographs when I started shooting for the newspaper. Subjects would allow me to interrupt their day and take the time to give me names & other info for the byline in the paper. I quickly realized that just because I send the photo to the paper it doesn't always mean the paper will choose that image to run so as a way of saying "thank you" for their time I offer to email them the photograph. Many shots are of children and parent(s) can never have enough photos of their kids.
