My mom needs a wireless printer for her iPad Pro. Nothing fancy, just for printing labels and recipes...simple stuff. Any recommendations on an affordable but quality machine that will work with the iPad?

Brother make some simple printers that do actually work over Wifi with iOS devices and are easy to set up and use.

Hp has em,

Note, make sure you secure the wireless access as many have massive security flaws that would let potential attackers into your network.

If a wireless printer already exists, give the Hammermill Paper free app a try. An iPad version supposedly exists. See https://www.digitaltrends.com …-solution-mobile-devices/ (external link)

I use it with a Samsung tablet and it interfaces nicely with a Brother laserjet and two HP inkjets.

Just look for AirPrint capable printers. My Epson worked straight out of the box, iPad would immediately detect. That said, it’s total junk that belongs in a landfill. Workforce 4000 series.

That working out of the box = insecure and the reason now even HP has shown to have millions of printers out there that can now be hacked.

????

the printer is on a LAN, and my wifi is using WPA2, how exactly would one hack into my system?

I've been using AirPrint Canon and Epson printers straight out of the box for years, never had a problem. If I were to be hacked, the hackers would be extremely disappointed!

HP wireless printers, certain models them selves advertise their own SSID for users to connect direct to the printer out of the box via their phone or other wireless device. Look around sometime for wifi networks and you may see the odd HP-****** SSID, you can likely connect to it. Early versions had exploits that let you connect wireless, then connect to the printers configuration interface which in turn if you had your printer on your own wireless network = I could then pull your wifi info to get onto your full wifi network.

Also WPA2 can be hacked in 2017

Dont think of it as they will be disappointed, think that because you do not take 5 mins to run through and secure your device, you are contributing to the problem of massive DDoS bot networks. Hackers don't hack just to take your wife's nude pictures these days, they exploit systems, get in, and sit quiet so you do not know they are there, then when they need resources, they use your system they hacked into. This goes as far these days as PVR systems, your home NEST thermomiter , do your baby monitoring cameras, all this IoT crap is 99.999% insecure out of the box and wide open to be exploited. Even your router you bought from Dlink or Asus or NetGear, likely has been exploited because people do not update firmware or change the default settings.

How about a wording change that is significant..."Even your router you bought from Dlink or Asus or NetGear, could be exploited because people do not update firmware or change the default settings."
