Hello all,

Just a thought but here goes:

I am interested in installing an outdoor webcam or GoPro to use to capture footage of birdfeeder action. I think it would be cool to see what is going on while sitting at my computer desk. Could be therapeutic during those pesky winter months! But I have never used a webcam before and have never used a GoPro or know anything about either...and nor do I know the least bit about live-streaming. Is this possible?

Again, this would be used outdoors so would need to be weatherproof.

Thanks in advance for any tips or thoughts!

Live streaming is very much possible. I live streamed 2 camera feeds from my Screech Owl boxes this past spring.

I purchased an inexpensive home security system and it came with a DVR and 4 weather proof cameras. I used the security cameras to monitor outside of the nest boxes and used 2 bird house cameras to monitor inside the nest boxes.

I used OBS Studio and broadcast the stream on Youtube. All the cameras ran through the DVR which was hooked to an older computer that I used for streaming (the computer has since died so I need to build a new one before the fall).

There are a lot of helpful videos on Youtube to get you started with streaming.

I set my Gopro up in front of my hummingbird feeder and use the app on my tablet to view live action. I can completely control the Gopro through the app. I can shoot video, still photos, or just watch. Gopro has the advantage of having a waterproof case so you can watch anytime.
