ND filters

Couldn’t really find a proper sub for ND filters so excuse me if it’s wrong to ask here, but I’m in search of ND filters and the popula brands in my budget seem to be Hoya and Tiffen. Which of the two do you prefer?

Also, I was planning on a variable ND to make life easier but everyone says that the color is off and it does weird things to the image(mostly I’m using for video) so is it often to find a good deal on a set of like 3 filters of different strengths?

Many of the filter "sets" you see advertised at a low price are absolute junk.

The multi coated Hoya filters are great and are fairly expensive. I have several of different types and consider them up to par with my B+W filters.

I have some Tiffen filters that are quite good although, I have heard that the Tiffen variable density filters and somewhat mediocre. I cannot back that up with any personal experience since I don't own any variable ND filters.
