^^^^ We have a winner! 1/1000 with all the conditions met.

Great question, good answer, good thread.

Two reasons why mine is set to 8 FPS long ago. Most importantly I doubt I get 10 anyway and I don't have to worry about the conditions being met. I have better things to do than trying to remember all of that besides the anti-flicker. There was some debate about mirror slap and the 7D2 being a little twitchy with AF. Not sure if the two are related and I have no evidence besides I think my burst rate keeper rate improved.

When I tested the 80D I mentioned the funny shutter sound. They told me it was the new motorized mirror assembly. The 7D2 also has a motorized mirror but everything I have read indicates it was improved on the 80D. If so another thing I'm looking forward to with the 7D3.

The 80D also borrows the mirror vibration control system from cameras like the 5DS, which helps prevent mirror slap vibration.

So both the 80D and 5DS don't have the same FPS as the 7D2 but this is interesting - for me anyway. The 5DS and R were released a year after the 7D2 and with the megapixel count keeping reducing mirror vibration is more critical. Any improvement is a good one.

The memory card and type of file are not relevant until the camera's buffer is filled. Until that point the mechanical action is the bottleneck.

Dre's suggestion seems like a winning idea. I don't even need high speed continuous and I'm tempted to try it out.

when i took shots of my phone stop watch, i determined i could basically get 8 in a second instead of the 7.5 listed...counting from the first to the last was like 1.01 seconds or something crazy close

I'm also looking ahead, and for a 7D3 in my future. Interesting stuff, I may try the 8fps.

Actually memory cards will determine how fast your cash clears - but not how fast you can capture images. Two different process completely. When your camera shoots it is writing to an in camera permanent memory cash.

There is so much more to it than what is stated here. If you are shooting high frame rates, it is likely you are shooting moving action. You lenses ability to focus will have as much or more to do whether or not you can achieve 10 fps. If you are continuously shooting, how fast the camera achieves focus lock between frames makes a huge difference. The other thing is what you asking the camera to calculate between frames. Many shooters will go to full Manual mode to reduce these issues in trying to achieve their rated speeds. Very seldom do cameras actually achieve their rated fps. Just like cars and their 0-60 speeds, or breaking distances. Lots of variables keep them from reaching the claimed spec.

It's spelled cache. Cash is what you use for your GAS:-)

Maybe the writer was referring to the new Sony SD cards; the SF-G32T/T1, 32GB retails at $72.99 and Sony also sells 64GB and 128GB versions retailing at $131.99 and $275.99 respectively.

Actually to my comment on post #17. I don't think the 7D3 or whatever they call it will have a mirror.

they'd have to come out with some better RF lenses if they are getting rid of the mirror on the 7DIII

I blame Apple every time my typing makes me look stupid. They know what I mean less often than my wife does.... and that is saying something.
