Hi!
I bought a used D700 + said 24-70 Zoom that I suspect has a problem, but I want to confirm this with owners of this lens if possible.
The issue is that right as AF reaches near focus and goes for small increments it kind of "sticks" and makes the sound of a sticking and releasing mechanism, sort of a "tick, tick" right as it's nearing critical focus.
Both the focus and zoom ring are a bit stiff and don't feel quite right. When flashing a strong light at the lens I later find a crack along the outer near the filter thread, so it's definitely had some sort of trauma towards to outer edge.
The seller has barely used it after buying it second hand himself and already offered me a full refund, but before I take him up on this offer I'd just like to confirm the AF shouldn't have this sticking sensation and sound? It does a meh job of working after all, though it does seem this stickiness forces it to subtly front or back focus consistently.
I have given it a proper workout fwiw, just to eliminate the chance of this being the lubricant having set a bit during storage. No progress with use.
Thanks!
Edit: I found this video and it appears to be the same issue, that's the sound I'm talking about and it definitely "sticks" rather than moves freely as it approaches focus.
