These are both lovely images Len.

What part of England are you in? The home office of the company I work for is in Farnham.

Keep the thread going, if not being able to get out shooting presently, I can always post a few of last summer :-)

I've been busy out shooting and when not shooting preparing for a move (ugghh). But definitely want to keep this thread alive. Here are my two favorite shots from yesterday. Still lovin' the double 500 combo or whatever nickname we're calling the D500 + 500PF these days.

Sadly, I haven't picked up my D500PF in a few months now :( It's been all kids, work and tennis for me, though the latter has come to a screeching halt due to a shoulder injury. I was slated to go to Costa Rica next month for my 40th birthday, but that got cancelled; I was really looking forward to re-igniting my birding on that trip, as I've had major burnout for the past few months. There's days where I look out and see some luscious light and want to get out for some shooting, but then remember that it's nothing but Juncos and Sparrows, so cold water gets thrown on that.

Am looking forward to Spring migration, which I've tentatively decided to start birding again. Can't wait to see the Kentucky Warbler again, as that was the highlight of last year.

Thanks for your kind words Matthee. I read in you other post about injury and burnout. Hope that improves for you!
Also your cancelled trip to Costa Rica, and we're in the same boat here: I planned to go on an organized trip with Dutch guide (who lives there) to Costa Rica with my spouse, and of course all got cancelled.
i want to go there at least once in my life, will have to be patient for now.

Do you guys use the VR (especially the Sport mode) at high shutter speeds 1/1000sec plus with moving subjects? some say it can introduce a slight blur against the edges of some subjects - especially if you pixal peep.

P.

I freely use normal VR mode when shooting static or slow moving subjects, and always use sport VR mode when shooting fast moving subjects. The blur induced by nót using any VR mode is far greater than the possible blur caused by the VR system, a blur which I find insignificant if it is even there. This applies to high shutterspeeds as well in my experience.
I can imagine when doing fully controlled shooting with optimal lighting, perfectly still subject and shooting from a steady tripod, it might become visible that the VR system causes a very slight blur, but real world shooting without VR causes much more problematic blur when shooting handheld, and I have to say that I have years behind me of shooting much more difficult to handle and heavy super telelenses than the 500PF ;-)a

Thanks for your reply Chris, I have the 300PF and use it with the Mk3 1.4 X TC I shoot alot of Aircraft (Civil on airways) but a few of them using Sport mode and high shutter speeds 1/1600sec but I have a few pics with a slight blur on the edges that should not be shake at that Shutter speed, the focus is there but just this slight bluring.
