That's really nice, Matt.

Sharp as a tack, 700mm, ISO 2500 & clear noise free! :)

Thanks, Phil. Shot this in post-sunset low light, and it seems like the D500 sensor has a good bit of latitude for recovery (aka making something out of nothing). I'm really looking forward to seeing how it handles during the dull winter months, which is actually my favorite time of year to shoot.

The 1.4 III extender is seeing more use than I thought it would though, much like how my Canon 600 is always married to the 1.4 TC. Someday I want to shoot a tele without needing a TC, and for that we just need Nikon to release the rumored 600PF, OR... Canon releases a 500 DO F/4 and a killer APSC body. Either would be the ultimate.

Glad the TC is working out for you, Matt.

I'll be glad to see winter come too. It's now so stink'n hot, it's not even fun to go outside down here.

I came across another group of fledgling Scissortails this week. :)

This lens works pretty good for dragonflies with the TC.

Excellent Dragonfly shot, Dan!

Looks like the TC is happy on your 500PF too. :)

Thanks. I find the IQ to be great with the TC. I have shot back to back and the shots are basically indistinguishable from each other. I don’t hesitate to use it as long as the light is there.

Did you do any sort of AF Fine tune? If so, what method did you use?

I used auto fine tune using Steve Perry’s video for directions.

I shipped the D850+1.4TC+500PF to Nikon and had them tune all together/with and without the TC.
I can't remember what it cost...wasn't bad; but that's also when they lost my whole kit for almost a week :(

Phil, hang in there, Fall is right around the corner! The weather here has finally relented. Really awesome days, ~85 and low humidity, and no bugs. Summer is started to loosen it's grip, and the best time of the year is right around the corner!

My outing this afternoon was weirdly devoid of small birds. I went out originally to go after Northern Parula and Louisiana Waterthrush, but they were a no show. So instead, I went back to the Heron well, and got these. The shot of the Greenie really exhibits why they're called Green Herons.

Yea, I know... Honestly, we've been quite lucky this summer. It's only recently we finally hit 100 degrees. They are predicting a cool front coming Wednesday that will get us back into the upper 90's. Lol!

In about 4 weeks, it's start getting better. :)

Very nice heron shots buddy.
