Phil, hang in there, Fall is right around the corner! The weather here has finally relented. Really awesome days, ~85 and low humidity, and no bugs. Summer is started to loosen it's grip, and the best time of the year is right around the corner!

My outing this afternoon was weirdly devoid of small birds. I went out originally to go after Northern Parula and Louisiana Waterthrush, but they were a no show. So instead, I went back to the Heron well, and got these. The shot of the Greenie really exhibits why they're called Green Herons.

Yea, I know... Honestly, we've been quite lucky this summer. It's only recently we finally hit 100 degrees. They are predicting a cool front coming Wednesday that will get us back into the upper 90's. Lol!

In about 4 weeks, it's start getting better. :)

Very nice heron shot buddy.

I'm thinking there's still a lot of swelter left in this summer yet, it's just nice that we can see the cool light at the end of the tunnel. Any winter birds to look forward to returning? Are your Scissortails year round?

We are starting to see some hummers as they begin to head south (way south). We are in a migration path for many of the warblers, but it's too early for them. They are usually not here too long. Best bet here is to catch them well south, while they are rejuvinating before they head out over the gulf.

The Scissortails are here from early spring until late fall. I'm not sure where they go when they leave here. I know many of the warblers go to So. America & many of the hummers like parts of Mexico & beyond.

During the winter, we have a lot of raptors - Many species of hawks, owls, and Harriers.

Bring on the cool! :)

Though we have not hit 100 (98 by my thermometer) the humidity is terrible.
Walk out the door and feels like you've been covered with a blanket.

Within 5 minutes my clothes are soaked ... yukky.

60 miles SW of New Orleans.

I totally get the walk outside & prepare to saturate your clothes deal, Dan. I hate it too. We are probably not quite as humid as you, but it's still pretty darn humid.

While these are not necessarily the best shots, due to position constraints & light but it explains all the Mississippi Kites we've been seeing.

Wifey was shooting a kite out her window, in an adjacent tree top and all of a sudden he/she left that perch and flew into the tree I was parked under. I promptly opened the sunroof & low & behold I could see movement through an opening in the leaves, as the wind blew. It was surreal.

Apologies in advance, I'm gonna post this in the bird mega-thread too. :)

What a wonderful set, Dan. I love the turtle just popping up, but the laughing duck family is excellent as well. :)

We got some rain this AM for the first time in well over a month. It perked up some flowers, so the bees came out. :)

Great ones Phil.
No rain for a month. Imagine, it rains here every day. That's EVERY day.
