Thanks, Denis! It was a disappointingly dreary day, but it seems that those are the kinds of days that you get the most activity. Plus, I'll take any kind of weather if it means I get to be outside doing what I love! Except wind... ugh, wind ruins everything.

Yep, the D500 is sensational, it pretty much takes anything I throw at it, and it makes me curious as to what more anyone could want from a camera. I'm almost considering buying a reserve/backup D500 so that I can continue shooting this setup for years to come, beyond when they discontinue the body.

The D850 is tempting, and in the past when I had the Canon 500 f/4 II, I preferred having a FF/APS-C body, plus the 1.4/2.0 TCs in the bag. Very versatile, but I got tired of changing stuff all of the time. I like simple, and that's what I'm getting from the D500 and this 500PF: "the absence of choice breeds creativity", or something like that! :-D Of course, the D850 you could just crop and get practically the same shot as the D500, and have the option to go wide, but then I'd have to add the battery grip, and still have less FPS with a heavier system and lighter wallet.

OMG... This thread has been flying, and that makes me smile! :)

So many excellent contributions as of late - Matt, Daniel, Robert.

Denis - Welcome to the Dark Side! If you've read much of this thread, you know that I started out with a D500 & 500PF (on order) and a 200-500 to bridge the gap until the 500PF arrived for Wifey, too. It was when I went out to set her new rig up, that I discovered the greatness of the D500 (even before the 500PF's were shipping). It wasn't long & I found someone to buy all of my Canon gear and "jumped ship". No regrets here. BTW - your Flickr page is filled with outstanding work, truly outstanding work.

I also appreciate the greatness of AI Clear - killer results and F A S T. In some cases, its still better than DeNoise AI. Fortunately, it's there as an optional processor in DeNoise AI. That said, in some cases when AI Clear would jack with blues & greens, DeNoise AI does not and that's a win, for me.

Thanks Phil!
Yes,i followed your transition, and I did the same, taking out wifey,s combo for a day.Totally blew me away.200-500 tempting, but will wait for the PF,as I still have the canon 600mmf/4,1dx,5dmk4,to play with, and will keep for tripod setup shots for warblers and such, where I,m not walking great distances.I,m retired now,and that,s why I want a light, capable kit,and also both combos in a single carryon bag! Using 400DO11 now with either 1dx,or 1dmk4/x1.4T.C.,as a walk around, but wont mind the 3 pounds less, the Nikon combo will be,not to mention killer flight kit, with that group autofocus!Never shot Nikon, but first day out with wifey,s kit,got a lesser yellowleg sandpiper in flight( not easy with any kit),and numerous ducks.took about 663 shots, and only about 4 out of focus, operator error shots! Awesome kit!

And, my first ever decent shot of a Blue Jay. Seriously, I see these birds every single time I go out, but have never had one land anywhere near me.

I couldn't help but think of you & Robert when these guys started plucking & storing pecans from a tree adjacent to the garden where I was watching for humming birds. They just won't stop in an desirable spot. Lol!

It was almost like squirrels with acorns. They were continuously plucking pecans & then attempting to bury them.

Edit: Changed 2nd image. Didn't initially notice it was 300PF.

Lol.... I do too. :)

They weren't really great shots, but I was laughing while shooting them while thinking of Matt & Roberts comments.

I just read a really well written review of the Nikon D5 vs. Canon 1DxII (and other bodies).

While most of us do not have the D5, the description of the AF system totally captures what I have tried so many times (probably with limited success) to verbalize. It's a great read and well worth a few minutes. :)

Hey all you Nikonians.
I need to sell a D850.
It's the one Nikon 'lost' at their service center. I had it 'mated' to the 500PF for best focus possible.
Problem is I use/prefer the D500 and at one time I thought the better-half was interested in the D500--that's why
I added the D850.
So if you know anyone who might be interested let them know. Soon enough it'll be on the buy/sell thread at FM.

Here's one with the 300PF on a Sony
