Beautifully captured CWW, Denis. They are really challenging to capture with nice detail, due to their "waxy" look. VERY nicely done. :)

Wifey spotted a couple dozen Cedar Waxwings in the neighbors tree last night. We (im)patiently waited for them to come down to our berry bush (they usually do), but no dice...

So many excellent posts as of late - Denis, Matt, Chris, Robert. Keep it up! I'm enjoying watching what ya'll are able to capture during these difficult days. I've been staying home in an effort to avoid this &$%# virus. All I've been shooting lately is backyard stuff - mainly insects & that's not 500PF territory so no posts here. :-/

I was wondering how you've been, Phil, good to see your alive and in good health! So you all are stuck at home then... it's such a bum situation all-around, and I hope we're through the worst of it. For me, I'm essential personnel, and have not missed a day of work, so it's business as usual here, but my wife and daughter are a different story... Oh boy, wife is bouncing off the walls because she can't go out, so time at home can get a little chippy at times. Even my 2-yo daughter is going a little stir crazy!

2yrs old! Wow, seems like she was just born recently. Easy for me to say, right? ;)

Yea, we are essential too, but the boss was kind enough to break us into teams. As such, I'm in the office (this week) and then work from home for the next two weeks. After the previous two weeks at home, this morning was a shocker. Lol!

It is nice to get out though.

For us, it's been with "curbside pickup" for groceries, limited time in the office, or at home.

Crazy, INDEED! :-/

Waxwings you have to get lucky, right place at right time.
Meadowlarks are tough at the best of times.trick is to get the males upon arrival, before the females arrive, and they pair up!

Beautiful shots, Matt.

I love the low perspective, and the scene is so nice. Very relaxing images to to view. :)

Guys,
I still have a 400DOII gathering dust with the 7DII. I shortly thought of trading it in for a Sony A7RIV to replace my A7RII, ang get a 200-600mm with it.
But I am not so sure I want another lens, because the 500PF is such a marvel to use, light and nimble and yes, sharp and with lots of "pixie dust" on the great Nikon sensor.

So I am thinking, since the 500PF does well with the 1.4tc, but AF is a bit unsure at f8. Is it any good to get a Z7 for use with the 1.4TC? It would add a silent shutter or electronic first curtain, extra in body IS, accurate AF also at distance, and FF coverage when subjects come close with the 1.4TC on, as well as live exposure preview. And from what I have seen, the BSI sensor seems to have an edge with really rich color rendering, like the D850, in good light. I am assuming that firmware 3.0 has brought AF up to an acceptable level, not intending this combo for B.I.F.

So am I making a good case for the Z7+500PF+1.4TC combo, which I mean to use for wading shore birds on the Frisian isles?
Any thougths or experience?
Just asking for some feedback not to get any unpleasant surprises due to the 500PF not being native Z

Well, it's done. I got the Z7 with the FTZ adapter, and am now a Nikon only shooter for birding and wildlife :-P
Still have the Sony A7RII with 3 Loxia lenses, but knowing that Techart makes a Sony e-mount to Nikon z-mount adapter, that may change also. The EVF in the Z7 is really much much nicer than the Sony's.
I installed firmware 3 and braced myself for a big letdown with regards to AF vmad

But AF is really good, perhaps the bliss of expecting the worse?!
I chose the Z7 over the Z50 for the added IS from the body, the efcs (really quiet), the better operation and customize options and the FF coverage. Still have to find out how to easily switch from FX to DX mode.

With luck my trip to the Frisian isles first week of may can go ahead, corona permitting. I would like to give this combo a good try.

Now onwards to the 600PF. Hope that materializes.

Congrats Chris. I'm eager to see your work with it.

On my Z6, I was able to program a "button + wheel spin" to scroll through the various image areas - FX, DX, 1:1, etc.

Can't recall off the top of my head how, but it was pretty simple while looking at the customization menu.
