I have started thinking about upgrading from my Canon 80D to a 7D

Now I am reading rumors that Canon might be releaseing a 7D MK iii

Has anyone heard this rumor (or even about a 8D) and does it have any credence?

I hate to get the MK ii and then in two months or so have the Mk iii come out.

I know they have often released news at photokina or what every that is called in September...

Current stable Canon 6D Mark II, 80D both with vertical grips, 10-20 EF-IS 35 f2 EF IS
18-135 EF IS 55-250 EF IS STM 100 EF "L" Macro IS 100-400 EF "L" IS ii, 70-200 EF L f/2.8 and more

The rumours about a 7D3 have been rattling about for a long time and that is all they are. People were expecting it this year now some are saying it won't arrive until late next year. If you need a new camera go out and buy one now, there are always new models just around the corner and you could spend your whole life waiting.

Someone on another site asked when the 7D3 was coming out a week after the 7D2 was released :-). The 7D lasted about 5 years before the 7D2 came out. I have a feeling that Canon is not too worried about leap frogging the D500 which is what they both do. With Sony and all this mirrorless talk who knows if it will even be a DSLR.

So there is no solid prediction or any statements expect for a receptionist I (think) at Canon service centre who said it was around the corner. :-) I can't find the thread. Just bits here and there. I'd wait to see what happens at Photokina.

I like my 80 d was just wondering if a 7D would be a good upgrade but doing astrophotography I also need the flip mirror and that to me would hold me back from the 7D Mark II

I predict that Canon will announce the 7D III...when Canon feels ready to, and not a moment sooner.
Market conditions may cause Canon to feel 'ready' sooner than later, but we cannot predict the market either.

BandH has discontinued the 7D Mark II body only product page. Does that suggest a Mark III is about to be released?

It's available when bundled with a lens or wifi adapter.

But discontinued as a camera alone.

I see the same at Adorama's site.
