That's because the EOS 7DR MK III is going to be announced soon. :)

Even a 7DR Mk I would be cool...

As long as it doesn't have 5 FPS.

I really like the 7D2, it has been quite good at all things I have thrown at it. The 7D3 will just have more resolution, even better AF, and a host of new features.

The 7D2 isn't a 5D4 by any means, but it does pretty good for low light fast events. I am very spoiled by the 5D4 however. :)

This competition was pretty wild. In the time that the band took the field and went through their show, black storm clouds completely covered the stadium from nowhere. Each picture where I could see the reflection of the stands, you can see the clouds coming very quickly. By time we all rushed out of the stands and made it half way to the school, the sky opened up. Our band was still trying to get the gear around the track and to the bus and 2 semis, the last band was on the field and still did their show. It was a wall of water. It took 3 days to dry out all the gear, uniforms, etc at the school.

This image was taken by my daughter in the opposing stands, there were no clouds over the stadium when they started and in just 5 minutes, this thing moved over... and my shots became ever increasingly underexposed. Camera went from ISO 8000 to 16000 in auto ISO. I needed to turn on safety shift. I expect a 7D3 to handle this even better with improved high ISO. Hopefully around a stop better, but I am not sure Canon can pull that off. The best we will get is digic 8 or digic 9 processors.

A shot near the beginning of competition (notice the overcast but clear skies)

and then the kids saw this move in as they performed...

I hate to get the MK ii and then in two months or so have the Mk iii come out.

.
Why?

Usually, the best time to get a camera is soon after its replacement comes out. . This is when the price of used copies drops, because of the increased supply, due to the knuckleheads that quickly jump to upgrade to the latest and greatest.

I almost always wait until a camera model is replaced and discontinued before I buy it, and then I buy one that is well used. . This m.o. has served me quite well, and it would serve you well, too.

The only camera body that I regret having bought was the one that I bought new - the 5Dc. . Yeah, it was a good camera and performed very well for me for quite a few years, but it still really bothers me that I could have gotten it a little cheaper if I had waited a little longer.

I'm semi-interested in getting a 7D2, but I don't think I'll buy one until the mark 3 comes out, because I don't want to spend more than about $550 for a used 7D2, and they won't drop to that level until the next model comes out.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

so to save money I bought a Canon AE-1 but can't figure out where to put the SD card and the whole back opens??? (snarky alert)

I think I have gone away from the 7D at this time, but never say never...

I have changed my mind to some degree, I like my 80D and the shutter count is low (bought it when the model was out year). I also just got the 6D Mark II as a retirement gift to myself, really wanted a FF body.

What will the 7Dii or 7Diii buy me over my 80D or 6Dii?

why do I like the 80D and 6D, first the controls are virtually the same, I had recently bought a used 5Dii and when using it I was constantly fumbling over the control especially when using the 80D and 5D at the same time. The 6D other than the Quick screen being different and the zoom for image review being different is basically a full frame 80D. The importance to me was when shooting the high speed Acela the other day with both cameras I was quickly changing settings without having to think.
Flippy Screen that is, along with control layout, made me go for the 6D! Yes it is less rugged than the 5D or 7D but so am I with my bad knees at age 65+ but for astro photography it is huge, you NEED a flippy screen (check out my astro and solar images at http://www.jeffpadellphotography.com (external link)
6D is not as rugged but it does have very good weatherproofing, better than the 80D I have heard. FPS the same more or less as the 80D, yes 7D is faster but...
Low light high ISO performance the 6D is really good and I have the 80D for low ISO shooting...

Flippy Screen and control layout was the deal maker for me.

Does that mean I wouldn't want a 7Dii or iii anymore, I can't say no but your idea of a gently used 7Dii when the iii comes out is worth looking at

however I do covet a pair of 15x50 IS binoculars for spotting Messier Objects and galaxies.....
