GPS still on when camera is turned off!?!

I just recently started enabling the GPS on my 7D2. It's been really helpful reminding me of specific locations I have visited. I can not find a setting for the GPS to disable when the camera is turned to the off position. It takes about 5 seconds for me to disable the GPS once done shooting, but if I forget to turn if back on I could end up with several or even a day's shots without GPS tagging. Am I missing the setting for GPS to disable when the camera powers down?

If not, has Canon addressed this with the newer models?

Unless I've missed it in a firmware update it will continue to update when the camera is off and there is no way to configure it to automatically turn off wen you switch the camera off. You have to disable it manually.

Yup. The claim is that it takes time for the GPS to acquire satellites and become accurate. Considering it is not at all uncommon for cameras to be turned on and photos taken quickly, there is probably some truth to it.

The 1DX Mark II does allow you to disable the GPS automatically, when you turn the swtich to OFF. Not if the camera just goes to sleep, though.

I suppose it might be possible to turn on GPS and store Custom1, then turn off GPS and store as Custom2?!
