I'm coming from a mirrorless nikon, which is a smaller sensor with a huge focal range. It can do a bit of everything, but it doesn't do anything particularly well when it comes to IQ. I had been mulling over A7's, some APSC's, etc for a while now. And with the potential for an A7000 coming soon, I still bought the 5D. Hasn't arrived yet, but got the 85mm 1.8 coming for it too. Did my research, got as good of a one as I could from usedphotopro, almost pristine. They sell like hot cakes there because they price them all at $278, almost regardless of condition or any extras included like batteries or battery grip. But they generally at least come with a battery/charger/cap. I was going to order one a few weeks ago, it was in very pristine condition, was snatched up before I could even check out. Then they had a couple rough ones. In any case, they're better than the prices you see on ebay from shoddy looking sellers that give you virtually no information.

The 5D can use any focal length lens made for the Eos system, less those made for the crop sensor cameras. It's the largest collection of lenses available for any system, I believe. No, the range of adapted lenses is not as wide as it would be with a mirrorless camera, but, because the EF lens collection is so large, it's not too much of a burden.

I've shot for many years with a 5D. It is a very capable camera. The auto focus isn't great, but other than that, I have no complaints. I hope you like yours as much as I like mine. Of course, but I could go from 24-1440 on a single lens. That's what I was getting at, it was really convenient, just not amazing IQ from a tiny sensor. Not to mention the minimum focus distance was really short, even at super long zooms.

I rarely used my 85 1.8, and still rarely use it. On my 5d, the 35mm f2 IS was the lens almost always on the camera. The image stabilization is REALLY nice on a camera that will only go up to 3200iso. -Dane
