Curious as to what showes up in windows explorer, assuming you use windows, when you plug the camera in, if anything. Maybe you need a device driver. Wild guess. I don't use windows on a regular basis so have to blow the cobwebs off old memories. :-)

I always use the SD card in my 7D2 just so I don't have to remove the CF card. Defective design. Pins should be on the card like an IDE hard drive IMHO. My CF card is set up as overflow and as such has never been written to.

Rod

That is my typical 7D2 card setup also. SD cards are fast enough now anyways where I think it is ready to just be the standard for Pro bodies and the lower models are only using SD anyways.

That aside, I would like to be able to import 5Dc photos into Lightroom 6 using the usb cable, thus not having to handle the CF card.

Well if windows knows it's a camera that is plugged in then I'm out of ideas.

Lr6 and during troubleshooting I tried the usb cable with my 7D2 and worked fine for importing.

I still use LR 5.7 on a Mac and it imports the images from my 5Dc into LR without a problem. It's slow though so I use my Macs built in uploader instead. Doesn't Windows have a similar app?

Hi Levina, have not crossed paths in a while!

I can easily import/copy photos onto my Windows 10 without issue using a usb cable attached to my 5D, but for some reason Lr6 does not see any images when using the Lr Import Dialog - despite Lr seeing my 5Dc as a source.

I would rather not copy to my PC and then import to Lr, as that would involve 2 extra processes each time.

Wherever I have actually seen references to this issue (which are precious few) - it usually regards tethering and most are left without solutions. Any solution seems to involve using a wireless SD into a CF adapter so images can go wirelessly to the computer - but that does not address my Lr import issue.

Thank-you for chiming in :-)

Ah, I understand.
Strange that LR does see the 5Dc but not the images.

I myself do it in 2 steps. I import my images with my Mac's uploader, view and cull in Bridge and import the remaining images to Lightroom. It works well for me but everybody has their own preferred way of doing things. :-) You may be asking now why I don't import my images from the camera with Bridge, well, it does not see any of my cameras!

Sorry I can't be of any help.

And congrats on getting a 5Dc, Will. It may be old but oh, those big pixels!

I may try it yet, culling could be easier. You just reminded me that Win 10 does ask what I want to do with 5D photos when it connects...

Thank-you Levina, frankly its a lot of fun shooting! Quite a contrast to the 7D2 that spoils me with auto iso and exposure comp in 'M' mode lol

The 5D is all I have, and all I know! I stopped shooting for years, and shot with a 40D back when it was a new camera. 5D is basically the same but a little slower. Watching new videos, and I can see how things like Live View are super helpful. :0) It's funny, because after years I'm still looking to buy the old gear that I salivated over 10 years ago. Trying to scrape together funds for a 17-40 and 70-200 and I'll be happy.

And the 5D is still a very capable camera. Live View is really the only thing I miss. And yes, it's a bit slow, but other than that it does very well that which a camera should do: take photos. I still use it today as it is my only full frame camera and I still love the files it gives me.

I just ordered one from Adorama, $229 with battery/charger strap manuals in Exc- condition. They couldn't give me a shutter count but look for the one that looked the best internally as well as externally

Usually you want to keep an eye out for one with the mirror reinforcement done, otherwise they can fall out. I don't know if it's very common these days, but it can happen. I think someone here glued their mirror back in when it fell out, lol. Can't beat it for $200.

Nah, that's not bad. It's certainly worth it. I think I paid $450 for mine in '16.
