Until that is true we will continue to see DSLRs updated on a regular schedule. Sep 02, 2018 12:06 | #6 it's the $64k question that has everyone wondering, or at least it should if you are invested in Canon gear. I figure i'm good as is for at least a couple of year without any equipment upgrades http://instagram.com/edraderphotography/

digitalparadise Awaiting the title ferry... More info | Sep 02, 2018 12:10 | #7 I'm considering selling the 5D4 and 7D2 for a 1DX II. With the changes coming I'n not sure what to do. It could be years before they release a ML 1DX but I would hate it of it happened within a year.. I can see myself with the IDX II and a ML for other stuff. Image Editing OK

From what I've seen of the rumored specs of the R, it may not have a significant difference in sensor features as the 5D4 (which I've just bought). I'll be happy with the 5D4 for a few years, and I'm used to the interface of DSLR. The 5D series has always been popular with wedding photographers and portrait artists: photographers who just need image quality instead of the speed of the 1D series. I believe there will still be a market for the 5D series for at least a few more years. Canon 5D mk IV

I do too but since the 5d refresh won't be for a couple of years I think there is a question of whether it will be mirrorless or DSLR. Canon seems pretty high on their "sexy solution", the EF adapter and there appears to be three of them. if performance does not take a hit adapting EF to R the DSLR could be dead in a couple of years. http://instagram.com/edraderphotography/

Nikon's Z cameras seem to be met with lukewarm reactions from Nikon shooters, and I saw Tony Northrup bemoan the fact that lenses for it are going to be slow to release. Because of their lens legacy, and continued sales, I think it might be more then a couple years before DSLR production ceases. Canon 5D mk IV

You need to give me OK to edit your image and repost! Keep POTN alive and well with member support https://photography-on-the.net/forum/donate.php

Dead is a bit strong, dontchathink? Then again, maybe not. The P&S market died with the smartphone camera. The upside of that has been relatively HUMONGOUS sensors in teeny-tiny little P&S cameras. Will the DSLR die, or evolve? I don't see a direction, yet.

DreDaze happy with myself for not saying anything stupid More info | Sep 02, 2018 14:31 | #14 it seems like if they were killing off the EF mount, why come out with the 70-200f4ISII, and 70-200f2.8ISIII...just wait a few months, and then when everyone is complaining about there not being a nice R mount long lens, boom...drop those on them of course not II, and III versions, but just R versions Andre or Dre

That is not even possible; light takes time to travel any distance. What you actually see is where the baseball was about 0.0000001 seconds ago. A 100 mph fastball (baseball) viewed from 100 feet away (assuming perpendicular to direction of travel), will travel about 5/10,000 of a millimeter in the time it takes light to get from the ball to your eye. For most of us, keeping that slight error in the viewfinder should not be much of a problem, most days.
