Getting to the point of no return, so many better camera options out there and my 5Diii low light focusing and noise is starting to wear me down, so is the 5Div a significant step up in this area, as the Sony A7iii certainly is. It's not so much the noise, I can sort of manage that pp, but it misses focus so often in slightly poor light, so not bad light, just a slightly dim room. Must have taken 70 pics at the weekend, on three different L lenses, all soft....

I can't compare to an A7III but the 5D4 is quite a step up in both regards. The IQ and noise is very real. It's the first camera I don;t feel the NEED to shoot RAW it's jpeg processing is so good. Of course I still do most of the time, and those RAW files are amazing in Capture 1 and DPP.

I was shooting a production of Midsummers Nights Dream with the 5D4 and 7D2 last Spring, and low and behold they do the entire dream sequence as a RAVE isn very dim black light. The 7D2 was of no use at all, practically non functional, but the 5D4 with ISO pumped to get subject motion blur down, was able to focus just fine. Nothing else I have shot comes close.

No processing, this is just cropped and resized to 1100 tall to upload here. From a jpeg (I wasn't shooting RAW)

This was just last weekend at the Vallea Lumina light show. This image is in complete darkness with only the lights from the trees. IBIS really helped with the A7iii with adapted Canon 16-35 f/2.8mk2.

This image I put the camera on the floor of the path. Pitch black darkness with some light.

I really love my 5dmk4 but in this situation I needed and wanted UWA lens and the 5dmk4 wouln't cut it as it has no IBIS.

The 5dmk4 is something I do feel more confidence in shooting in low light.

Please note there is no real opportunity to use a mono pod or tripod in this show. Look at my iso and shutter speed!!! crazy that I even had so many keepers in such horrible lighting!!!

assumption being that the EOS r is using at least as good as 5D4 sensor. Canon ALWAYS claims "totally new" even when it was the same damn 18MP sensor found in everything for 6 years running. I think it's a safe bet it's the 5D4 sensor with a little reheating at best.
