ISS Solar Transit
Delhi, LA, 9/3/18 11:23:57.4 AM
This is my first ISS Solar Transit since 9/3/16, exactly two years ago today (and about 450 miles apart)! I really didn't think I'd get this one, as the weather forecast was for mostly cloudy skies. While there were clouds (and a lot of thin, high clouds), I got a little lucky.
If you've shot this type shot before, you know that it's all about timing the transit. With only about 3 seconds of buffer space available on my camera, I have to be pretty exact, and I never know if I've captured the ISS until I review the photos. This time was different, though. I was showing a new photographer my set up. I had a pair of binoculars with solar filters from last year's eclipse, so he was watching with them. He let out a big "Wow!" as my camera was firing.
I also used my iOptron tracker this time, which greatly reduced the problem of keeping the Sun in the frame while waiting for the transit.
