EOS-R - It's out. Thoughts?

While the New Canon R has some nice features and eventual potential If I wanted a strictly portrait camera it would fill the bill however at 3 FPS in servo it all but eliminates it as a action camera so for me it's a no buy.As for me if the rumored 7DMKIII isn't at least as good as the D500 as much as I love my Canon lenses and Canon colors I'm switching to Nikon.

I'm thinking more and more that this will be a strictly "creative" camera, and like others have stated, in the 6DII segment. I imagine "my" Canon FF mirrorless is another year or so out.

Maybe this is an innovation direction canon is taking. While IBIS sounds great and likely works great, it increases the mechanical components in the system and points of failure. Software on the other hand, does not. I can be on board with eliminating mechanical failure points.

IBIS makes a big difference.

There are so many lenses that lack IS to keep size down and simple to make. I don't think Samyang makes a single lens with IS, and these days, they make AF lenses!!! Not a single sigma prime has IS.

My Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro OS would disagree with that statement.

Maybe here lies the problem. Panasonic and their tiny sensors are mopping up in the video department. I suppose Fuji as well. Sony is the only full frame with good video, and there are suggestions of heat issues. Maybe Canikon is trying to avoid heat issues, while Sony sort of overlooks them.

RED video cameras don't even have full frame sensors.

Ya, maybe I side-swiped the topic point a bit, but I'm just trying to reason this out.

I've shot hours of video on Sony, never once even a warning on heat. There were multiple firmware updates that fixed the issue early on.

While not as active as Fuji, Sony does give out major updates. I'm hoping for F11 AF like Canon and the A9.

odd.. the Northrups and the Watsons are saying the AF for stills was a bit slow and not quite as accurate ,, not on par with sony or Fuji.

(I kind of lost a bit of trust in his words after a recent Fuji camera review he did , where he didn't seem to know how to use the camera.. and then blamed the camera for its short comings (when it was really that he needed some time with the manual))

I watched their video. They were discussing focus tracking with moving subjects walking toward. In watching their burst, it still looked better than in their Nikon video, at least to me. Jared uses the camera a bit more like it would be used in the real world while T&C seem to see if things can be pushed.

Canon's site has a review by a videographer using it. He mentions Canon's "digital image stabilization" for lenses w/o IS. On their site, Canon mentions the R's "in-camera digital lens optimizer". (screen caps below). What gives?!

Canon has an in camera stabilization mode that crops the picture very slightly and it allows for a stabilized look in video. The 6Dii has this feature and when combined with an IS lens, movement is super smooth.

Canon press release stated canon C-Log enabled 12 stops of dynamic range. Like that was a good thing or something. Heck my mavic 2 pro has 12.5 stops and it's just a little ol 1" sensor.

I hope canon is wrong on this one.

That’s 12 stops within a 10bit compressed video file. CLog is not camera RAW.

Seems like so, the 2 online retailer I go to in my country got the basic adapter coming as a kit with the body.
They also have the body with 24-105 and then no adapter.

You mean a Canon L lens on a Sony body though, yea?

I'd rather hope that an EF lens on the R body would perform at least as well as it would on a 5D4 in Liveview (with DPAF). It's all Canon gear, so no specific reason why not (unless there was something odd, like R lenses needing much less power, and the R body couldn't provide enough juice to an EF lens to drive it quickly).

No way I can afford a whole new set of lenses.
