I'm authentically excited over the EOS-R release. I think that for as much as we want to point out it's strengths and weaknesses that it's impact on the Sony business will be inevitable. I feel this will get Sony to maintain an aggressive product release cycle and continue to innovate. What is funny is that there may be some that switch back to Canon and this ultimately will prevent many more from switching from Canon to Sony but in the end I think for the folks that have Sony and stick to Sony that there will be some even greater times to experience within the next few years.

Any other Sony guys feel this way?

i think that competition is good for us.
i would like to se people buying this Canon R camera by the mass (not me), so Sony would feel the pressure and i would benefit from it.

A little bit of hypocrisy?

I find it wild all the comments on various sites about how amazing it is.

I’m so glad I shook the canon fanboy crap off my mind

Not thrilled here.

Enjoy. Sounds like canon can release a batter powered poop stick and it’ll sell great.

Nope. I'm underwhelmed, I think Canon could of done better.... BUT because of the fanboys it will be a big seller and will put pressure on Sony and then we should benefit from it.

But to be back on topic.... I am generally excited they released it. I think Sony will slam dunk another release next go round :)

Sony has been competing with Canikon all along....it's given them a competitive fire in the belly that has driven them to develop the a7 series very aggressively, and we've all benefitted as consumers. The duopoly between Nikon and Canon really stunted cameras from an innovation standpoint...had the likes of Sony and Fuji not disrupted things, we'd all be anxiously waiting for the Canon 5D MK V, with an awesome 2 extra FPS, and 20 more AF points, and 1/2 stop better high ISO performance.

Canikon entering the mirrorless market is good for competition too. It keeps that competitive drive going with Sony and doesn't allow them to let their foot off the gas.

Also...maybe now Sony will give us an effing 35 f2. vmad

I've given up excitement about new gear until the end of Lent 2020.

I'm really excited over the EOS-R and if I could afford it, I would get one without any hesistation.

As I don't shoot video or shoot professionally, the 4K crop and single SD card slot (I don't even use the second slot on my a7III) isn't an issue for me. The articulating screen is something I really miss from my 6DII so its really good to see they included it.

The RF lenses look amazing and honestly Canons lenses are what made me stay with them for so long. Being that 35mm is my favorite and most used FL, that 35mm f/1.8 Macro is killing me with jealousy right now.
