Apple is doing with software what Canon, Nikon, etc. do with very expensive lenses. Amazing software on a hand held computer! Just amazing.

Wonder if camera manufactures will add that kind of software to their SLR/Mirrorless cameras!

The bokeh examples looked okay, but there seemed to be a lot of visual artifacts such as the transitions in those bokeh balls. It looked harsh and artificial. That slider to control depth of field is also nothing new, they ripped it off Android which had it for the past year or two.

Camera-wise Apple seems to be on a good track. But they still have lots to do. I abandoned iPhone 3 years ago and have zero interesting going back at their current rates, at least if I'm expected to to pay out of my own wallet. The algorithms on the SW side still have a lot of catch up to do on camera-side.

BINGO, but it is interesting just the same how the tech is continuing to leap frog the last one.

I remember when Digital first came out and people said 'they'll never get to the resolution of film."

Its great to see the tech keep growing. The improvement in the 1Dx with two processors was huge and now each next camera has a much much faster processor!

Following tech is fun.

Yup it's fun. I have a Galaxy Note 8, with the dual cameras so you have wide/telephoto. The quality is very good for snapshots. Videos of my kids, quick picks on family outings and such like that. I wouldn't want to lug a camera around for just snapshot stuff but it's good enough with the phone.

The video capabilities have gotten amazing. The new iPhone can use on the fly HDR to make the video image much more like what your eye can see. Just amazing. I use my current iPhone more than I should for kid photo's but the wide angle view is always a potential distorter of faces if too close. I need to keep my 1DX with me more. :)

Check out an app called Focos. Works on all dual lens Apple models. It does bokeh and a lot more much better.

Wow! It lets you go back to photos you took previously, pick what you want to focus on, and blur from there. That is a great app! Thanks Pekka!
