Just bought flash canon 270 exii as a small walk around flash. This flash has additional feature of remote controller of camera.

When I bought this flash, sales man showed this feature and operated my camera from a distance.

I am unable to do it. After going through both manuals, my understanding is that camera is to be put to 2 or 10 second timer for remote to work. It is not working. I vaguely remember that my camera had remote symbol appearing with one of the timers. Now this is not appearing.

What I am doing wrong. Any help or link will be appreciated

I've used the 270 II as a remote trigger, but I no longer own it. IIRC, just set the camera to 'remote' (either), and press the button on the 270. I also think you need both shutter release and AF on the front (shutter) button.

Go to https://learn.usa.canon.com …ite270EXii_QuickGuide.pdf (external link), specifically page 2 lower left corner and see if the 270II guide helps. Keep in mind it uses infrared so that usually means "line of sight". By the way I print guides like this, double sided, get them laminated and then keep them with my gear. Handy to have at times.

The Speedlight manual also discusses this starting on page 19.

Thanks for the link and info. Tried again but it did not work.
Then I reset all camera settings and immediately remote sign appeared with 2 second timer in camera settings and remote control through flash also started working.
After that I reconnected my mobile through camera connect application and wow the remote control symbol disappeared from camera 2sec timer screen and flash stopped working as remote.
Therefore conclusion is that camera accepts only one remote at a time, ie mobile or flash. So now I am wondering how to toggle between my mobile and flash for remote control. Even if I come out of camera connect application the control is not transferred to flash.
Any technical info plse...

What firmware are you running? 1.0.4 from 07/10/2018 corrects an issue where

Corrects a phenomenon in which in rare instances, the operation buttons and some touch panel functions do not respond.

Not exactly your issue, but probably worth a firmware update just to check things. Takes about 5 minutes.

See https://www.usa.canon.com …subtab=downloads-firmware (external link).

What is the application where it's desired to go from one remote control device to another just like that? I don't see when that's useful, so it would be interesting to learn about.

I am using Canon application Camera Connect for downloading pics from 6dii directly to my mobile. Camera connect in addition also remotes 6dii to my mobile for clicking a pic with camera live view coming on mobile.
As of now once I configure Camera connect to my mobile the other remote doesn't work.:-x

From the 6D2 manual page 272: "Under [Wireless communication settings], if [Bluetooth function] is set to [Smartphone] or [Remote], you cannot use infrared remote controllers such as the RC-6 for remote control shooting."

So maybe you can use the wifi and not the bluetooth for the app control and the infrared should still work?

Then I understand. You aren't using the applicaton as a remote as well, but to transfer images.
But can't you give up the flash as a remote and actually use the phone you have to connect anyway, then?
