From canon rumors:

2700 g, 105 mm filter diameter - these are both significant increases over the 50-500 OS Bigma which may make it very difficult to handhold.

Wondering if quality will be better than the usual superzoom. This might prove to be a good travel lens but 60 mm is getting long on full frame for in close action so still be bringing a 24-70 at least.

The 50-500 OS as a very good lens, great IQ at the long end at least. 50mm was okay. Some of my best wildlife was captured using that lens. The 60-600 should be better yet.

More than a rumor...

https://www.sigmaphoto.com …-600mm-f45-63-dg-os-hsm-s (external link)

About the same weight as the Sigma 150-600 Sport. And $200 more.

The big question is how it will perform compared to the existing 150-600 C & S lenses, in the 150-600 range.
Will IQ be less, the same, or better at 600mm?

I think it will most likely be very good.

Talked to Sigma rep who was test driving one in Jackson Hole- First thoughts are impressive- he had some Moose images that
were quite nice.

I loved the 50-500mm OS, it was awesome--way better (completely different league) than the 150-500mm. We'll see how good the 60-600mm is. Maybe real world results will be even better than the 150-600m sport. Probably not, but maybe (I know the mtf charts are worse). I want one. :P

Some Canon 5D3 JPG samples at LensTips; some look pretty decent for a 10X zoom. All static shots it looks like so waiting to see someone comment on AF accuracy and speed.

I downloaded the lenstip samples and sharpened them and they look great. Not as sharp as the 100-400mm II probably (though I didn't look at the 400m samples, I should...but the 100-400mm is a LOT lighter lol). At least as good as the 100-400mm v1 though. It looks about as good at 600mm as my 50-500mm OS did at 500mm, which is to say very good (but not as good as a prime--close enough though--the corners weren't nearly as good though).

What made it such a great lens was the close focus capability. I think it was quite a bit better than 1:3.3 with manual focus. We'll see how this one is.

The 50-500mm's stabilization wasn't really that great though. It looked good in the viewfinder but I think it gave about the same 2 stops that the 100-400mm (version 1) did. At least I never managed better, but I'm a shaky guy. I got 4 stops easy out of my old rebel xsi with the 55-250 though. If this has an effective OS system and good auto focus I'm going to try to save up for one.

Lenstip review is live and pretty positive for a big zoom range lens. Might be my next lens purchase (or I might wait to see how the new 70-200 OS Sport does first as my Sigma 70-200 OS is my least favourite 2.8 zoom lens).

https://www.lenstip.com …_OS_HSM_Introduction.html (external link)

Pros:
◾very solid, weather-sealed casing,
◾excellent image quality in the frame centre across the whole range of apertures and focal lengths,
◾good performance on edge of APS-C/DX sensor,
◾completely acceptable resolution on edge of full frame,
◾low longitudinal chromatic aberration,
◾lack of problems with lateral chromatic aberration in the 100 – 600 mm range,
◾no reservations concerning spherical aberration correction,
◾moderate distortion,
◾good coma correction,
◾imperceptible astigmatism,
◾low vignetting on APS-C/DX sensor,
◾blurry areas pleasing to the eye,
◾efficient image stabilization,
◾fast, efficient and silent autofocus.

Cons:
◾distinct lateral chromatic aberration at 60 mm focal length,
◾weak performance against bright light,
◾too high vignetting on full frame.
