Artisan is from my Naturally Abstract collection and was composed at Hopeland Gardens in Aiken, SC. I have a sub-collection I refer to as Stump Art because all of the images are from stumps I've come across. I found this one fascinating for the designs and the various colors as well as the fact that only the cut made at this exact point exposed it to our eyes - any other point would have revealed something different.

Fissures is another from my Naturally Abstract collection and was composed at Hopeland Gardens in Aiken, SC. The stump from this one was very close to ground level and quite hard (almost like a rock).

The Artist's Story blog post for this piece (and one other) can be read here: https://www.stevendillonphoto.com …rdens-in-aiken-sc-part-4/ (external link)

Cracked is also from my Naturally Abstract collection and was composed at Hopeland Gardens in Aiken, SC. It reminded me of a graph and was one of my earliest stump art compositions.

Very interesting subject and with many beautiful options.
You've captured them well.
Old stumps are fascinating.

Actually there's some of the most exquisite timber in the stump of a tree.
But that's another topic.

Keep up the good work.

Stump Eye is from my Naturally Abstract collection and was composed at the Rye Patch in Aiken, SC. It is also the earliest entry in my Stump Art sub-collection.

Golden Light Stump is another from my Naturally Abstract collection. It was composed at Hopeland Gardens in Aiken, SC. The golden light from the rising sun really played an important role in this image (both coloring and conceptually).

I wrote more about those topics in my blog. The Artist's Story blog post for this piece (and several others - including one above) can be read here: https://www.stevendillonphoto.com …rdens-in-aiken-sc-part-2/ (external link)

Old Wooden Cross is another from my Naturally Abstract collection and was composed at Hopeland Gardens in Aiken, SC. I saw the familiar pattern immediately while the other features were realized the more I studied it.

Splitting by hand and stacking wood was one of my favorite activities. It was a type of meditation for me. I used to like big "cookies", some over 40" across, and take a sledge & wedge to it. Those large cookies yielded some interesting finds; clothes line pulleys, skinks, knotholes that had been grown over (great grain patterns there), etc...

I like where you're going with these, though I feel better lighting would really bring out the grain & color more. Good luck!

Kindness,

Julia

Aged is from my Naturally Abstract collection and is from the same stump that produced my Fissures composition (posted earlier in this thread). The two are similar, but both have different patterns.

The Artist's Story blog post for this piece (which also has Fissures in it) can be read here: https://www.stevendillonphoto.com …rdens-in-aiken-sc-part-4/ (external link)
