I'm excited that it's finally coming, but I am very disappointed that it no longer has a hot shoe. I don't get it. Is there any way to utilize an external flash via Wifi/Bluetooth/synced remote? I bounce my hot shoe-mounted external flash all the time to take photos inside our house. Now I'm worried that my only option will be to use the onboard flash or a threaded video light.

We've got the SX60, mainly for my wife. Although she's not all that enthusiastic about photos after all and I keep it for hiking ... later on.

Recently, a guy showed me his Sony bridge camera that was pretty awesome looking. But the price for it was rather massive too.

This new Canon isn't in that spec range, but for 30% the price and a solid track record for this series, its a fun camera.

I think I had a Polaroid SX70 once.

Our SX50HS is still running fine. No idea how many actuations it has gone through as I have not found any shutter count software to read the number , but it just goes on clicking without any complaint.:-)

Just seen this one full hands-on review so far, and it's disappointing. Looks as if Canon missed the boat.

Hello everyone. I'm fairly new to photography and completely new to this forum :) I've been using a Canon SX40 for several years and thought it was a great little camera, though I wanted to upgrade to something a little better, especially for taking videos, and hoped the SX70 would be the solution. I've had it for a week or so now, and I'm somewhat disappointed. Granted, it may be that I simply need to learn more about the camera functions and settings, but so far the photos feel washed out and lacking color, and the video quality feels fuzzy and grainy to me. If it's a step up from my SX40, I'm not noticing it. I'm seriously considering returning it for a refund. If I'm going to spend $600 on a camera, I need to be pleased with it. I was out this morning to get some photos and videos of the sunrise, and there's a loud background hum in a lot of the video clips.

Welcome to the forum, GeekMonster! If you can return it, then why not? Check out the review in my previous post - it's not a camera I'd buy. On the other hand, my old SX50 is a fine camera and still going strong although it has limitations.

Thanks for the welcome! I may return it in the end. I want to love it, but...I just don't see that it's THAT much better than my old SX40 :-/
