UPDATE: Battery life meter and NB-13L 3rd party batteries

I've recently started searching again for NB13L 3rd party replacement batteries. I ended my first search, a few years back, after I purchased both my new G7X MII and G5X. They were both new Canon releases back then. Canon's firmware, on both cameras, included a non-OEM battery detect feature that disabled the battery life meter and showed a communication error startup message. I couldn't find a non-OEM battery that corrected both issues.

It seems that some select NB-13L non-OEM batteries are now "fully decoded" and finally show the battery life meter. The startup communication error message is now gone as well. I found these Kastar branded batteries on Amazon, with excellent customer ratings. So far, no issues have been found with these batteries. I'll update this post if I find any.
