Anyone have any input on what's the best way to transfer the data from CFAST card to a portable HDD without using laptop, tablet or mobile devices?

I currently only have one Sandisk 128GB Cfast card for my 1DX2 that can fill up so fast when recording 4k/60.
There are times when I couldn't bring my Surface Pro 2 or portable HDD on the job due to reasons.

Therefore I'm wondering what's the best way to backup the data on the CFast card on the go.

What cameras are you talking about? Your profile hints at a 5DIII

This https://www.bhphotovideo.com …tation_cs100_storage.html (external link) should work using the wireless capability of your 5DIII (profile). I think with a 5DIII you can also copy in camera card to card. So just stock up on some quality SD cards. See https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1266822.

My camera is now 1DX2, I'm very sure I've mentioned that unless you're actually not reading my post earlier.

I guess my bad, but I'm used to looking at the user profile for additional information. Having said that, I think the EOS-1D X Mark II has two memory card slots — slot 1 is exclusively for traditional CF cards, and slot 2 is solely for CFast cards and I do think you can do an in-camera copy card to card. A bit expensive "yes" but if you can afford a $5000 camera body, a $100 CF card should be affordable.

Unfortunately not really possible to copy 4k/60 videos from CFast to CF card.

CF card will split up the file larger than 4GB into bits of pieces, unless it's preformatted outside camera as ExFAT. 1DX2 formats the CF card in-camera as FAT32 only.

Sure I could preformat the CF card in PC as ExFAT before shooting but it tends to result a few error/corruptions.

Do you even have 1DX2 by any chance?

No I don't own one but work closely with a group that uses them for video work.

First of all I'm told the camera will format a CF card, in camera, as exFAT if the card capacity is greater than 128 GB. Below that the camera formats to FAT 32 as you've noted. CFast cards are formatted as exFAT, regardless of capacity. As I look at the manual for the 1DXII, Canon also states (page 75) "When shooting a movie with a CF card larger than 128 GB or with aCFast card formatted in exFAT, the movie will be recorded in a single file even if it exceeds 4 GB. (The movie file will exceed 4 GB.)" So that raises the question as to the card size you might be using.

I'm told there aren't many ways to accomplish the task of getting the files onto other media for storage without some limitations. The NVS2801-Plus is the best way from a standpoint of versatility and speed but it comes at a price of about US$1400. The less expensive way is the Western Digital My Passport Wireless Pro drive at about US$200 depending on drive size. You would also need an external CFAst card reader. The WD Drive method is slow and is designed primarily for SD cards. Using it for CFast involves numerous devices that need to be carried and connected for use. The links are below should you want to investigate further.

XferMax from dazuinfo is new one product that hit market recently. It equip with CFast card slot and XQD as well. No external CFast card reader required.
The fast speed is about 140MB/s in case of SSD installed.
Please read product review for details.

Interesting product and interesting they include XQD support, but I guess they have to humor Sony. Today Lexar announced it is dropping XQD (again). See https://petapixel.com …y-of-preventing-progress/ (external link)

Thanks mate, very interesting product. Similar to Flashporter in some ways but more modular.
I assume the price is in USD? $599 for just the casing & battery seems all right I guess, way cheaper than Nextodi.
