I said that what I do works quite well for me. . It'd be nice if you would take me at my word, and only at my word, instead of reading things into what I have said or making assumptions.

My dislike for UPS primarily stems from the way they have treated some of my friends, who worked for them in the past.

.

Thank you for the critique- I could have asked or otherwise phrased it differently.

You're a class act, Cap'n.

I apologize for the agitated tone of my response.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

..........A simple apology, however, would have been a nice gesture. No such a thing.

I apologize for the frustration and inconvenience caused; much of our packaging process is automated these days in order to be able to cope with the need to get more orders out within a shorter time frame. It sounds as though that part of the process fell short of our expectations as well as your own.

The UPS Store, by the way, always checks your photo ID before handing out the package. ......

If all personnel at all UPS stores did this thoroughly and effectively we wouldn't need to add the safeguard of verifying the ID of callers requesting delivery address changes!

You don't have to call. Calling and having to be put on hold is a hassle and a lot of waste of time.

Hasn't been a hassle so far. Never been on hold for more than 30 secs and 99% of the customer service ppl know exactly what I'm asking for. Seems like there are a lot of other ppl who call in for the same favor. Its easier for me to call than to get to a computer. My smartphone is too small for me to make out stuff on it without having to pull off at a rest area. But calling handsfree is super easy. I even have UPS and FedEx on my contact list so siri can dial for me :-)

CC always welcome.

@HelenOster

Out of curiosity, what is Adorma's policy when it comes to its packages being stolen off the customer's front porch?

If adorama requires signature on most or all shipments, then a package cannot be stolen off the porch. The only way this could happen is if the carrier didn't obtain said signature or allowed a person to sign that shouldn't be signing. This makes it a carrier issue and subsequent claim. Adorama could cover for the carrier to keep the customer happy but ultimately it is the fault of the carrier that must be addressed.

I don't remember having to sign for any Adorama packages delivered to my home address, and I've spent thousands of $$$ ordering from Adorama over the years, as I've stated earlier.

If you spend thousands at a hundred bucks a clip signature will not be required. If its a big ticket Item just about all retailers will
require a signature upon receipt. Fact.

Amazon and eBay (just recently purchased my 5D IV from) don't require any signatures. BH did require, if I recall correctly, when I purchased my "L" lenses more than a decade ago. I don't know whether they still do or not for big items. Getting a package containing $100 worth of goods being stolen off the porch still isn't something that any consumer would take lightly. I don't, if not for the actual dollar value but for the hassle of dealing with the issue.

Service selection and carrier terms define what happens in the case of theft. The carrier is responsible up to a specified or insured amount while in its possession. As TeamSpeed wrote, requiring a delivery signature ensures the correct party gets a package. But when the recipient signs a release, it becomes his own problem. In most other cases the delivery is fulfilled and becomes “yours” once the package is left at your door, lobby, office, porch, etc.

It does not make sense to hold Adorama or any shipper responsible if a buyer specifies home delivery, but cannot be there to receive it, does not have a safe location, or does not designate someone else to be there. “Too busy” to receive a package is your own problem. “Not safe to leave on porch” is also your own problem. Get a family member or neighbor to be there. Specify a business address or move to a safer neighborhood. The last one is facetious, but choosing where you live is not. Everyone who works outside the home has the same issues. Adorama has no control over where you live.

If you are a professional photographer, get a business address, hire staff and have business hours. There are legitimate complaints about shippers and carriers, but being too busy to receive your own deliveries is not one of them.

I may like or dislike Adorama or any other retailers, BUT one thing I don't do is to blame any of them for however they conduct their businesses. As a consumer, I have my likes and dislikes, and just as Adorama or anyone else's business isn't personal, I also don't take it personal with whatever the policy they have or don't have. As a consumer, my priorities when making an online purchase decision, in the order of priorities, is: 1) better price, 2) faster delivery and 3) flexibility in delivery location or re-routing capabilities. I've most recently dropped Xfinity cable TV because the company no longer meets my personal needs. Nothing personal with Xfinity. In fact, I liked them while I had them. It's just that they either don't listen to what the consumers want or very slow in responding to their competitors. That's business. Based on the above shopping priorities, I go with whoever that are willing to meet those criteria. Consumers are the ones who are giving them the opportunity to make a good living, and I'd be very happy to do so as long as my needs as a consumer are met.

Any package that goes missing, it is the shipper's responsibility to investigate.

Per our website "A signature is required for most UPS shipments upon receipt. An adult must be at the address to receive the package and sign for it". If the driver deems the delivery address to be 'safe' and the package subsequently goes 'walkabout', it is the responsibility of UYPS.

Thanks for the clarification on both the porch theft policy and the required signature.
