What a great time to be a photographer!! This is good news, but so is Luminar coming out with their "Libraries", Capture One Pro for Fuji (I shoot Fuji), Nikon & Canon mirrorless, Panasonic Full Frame, and so many other great innovations just now coming out. Our only REAL PROBLEM is figuring out what works best for us.

FUJI XT-2 & FUJI XT-3 ->
12mm Roki, 16 f1.4, 35 f1.4, 56 f1.2, 80 Macro
10-24, 18-55, 55-200, 100-400

Actually, for me and many others probably... the REAL PROBLEM is not buying one of everything! GAS is real ;-)a

I agree, it is a great time for photographers. I've been a photography hobbyist for almost 10 years and I can't remember the last time so much gear and software has been released over such a short period of time.

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

I believe Adobe is losing market share pretty quickly.

Once I got used to having layers as part of my non-destructive RAW editing process (in my case via C1), Lightroom's editing model seemed really crude. Alien Skin's offering also has layered editing without any intermediate TIFF / PSD dump, and now it's coming to On1. I think Adobe would be wise to consider adding something similar to LR.

Maybe there should be meetings for those who finally made the break with Adobe. Hi, my name is Mark and I am no longer an Adobaholic. It's been almost one year since I made a clean break.

It is amazing what's available today. Even Canon's comparatively light weight DPP software now supports local adjustments. And since it's up to version 4.9 could a major uograde to version 5 be in the near future?

My point is that I agree that the number of quality alternatives to Adobe today is mind boggling. I currently own ON1 2018 and am looking forward to the 2019 update version which supports layers during raw processing. However, my primary editor is DXO Photolab Elite which is also due for a major refresh before the end of the year. The choices keep getting better and better.

Yep, cancelled my subscription this morning. It's Capture One for me. :)

Yet, they keep announcing record breaking quarters...

I am not part of that hype. I use Lr6 (with the Dehaze free presets), and Ps Elements 14. PS Elements 2019 was just announced and I'm not biting.

I do look forward to DXO NIK Collection's next upgrade, and I'm keeping a keen eye on what I will move to from Lr6...

Options galore...

I’ve been learning Luminar, and it’s a solid program. With the launch of Libraries (their DAM), I think they could fill the last hole. Plus, no upgrade charges for the new version...

I have been demo-ing Alien Skin Exposure 4 in the last day or two. I am fairly impressed. I have been primarily working with JPEGs that were shot under terrible field lighting at night with a custom WB in-Camera and the flat Eterna film simulation (Fujifilm X-H1). Getting skin tones to look right under the lighting conditions can be a real pain in this situation, for many reasons.

I was able to converge on a set of adjustments quickly over about 900 images and then add a slight look as well on a separate layer and then copy-paste this set of adjustments to all 900 images and batch export. It took about 30 minutes from start to finish to inspect a hundred images or so to evaluate the adjustment set for various similarly lit images groups and render the output. I did all of this before culling so I could cull based on the “final” output.

The application is fast, responsive and is mature in its feature set and efficient workflow. I will try it with raw files next.

Still using LR 6.14 as it does what I need in DAM, and initial RAW processing. In place of PS, I've been using Serif's Affinity Photo. The more I use it the more I like it. While PS can do several things AP can not, like using Smart Objects, and Linking objects, AP is quite capable of performing most of what PS is used for by hobbiest, tweaking photos, removing objects, ect. AP's downside is speed. It is kinda slow launching, and when you make adjustments they're not really instant, there's a slight lag, but nothing I can't deal with.

I still have ON1 2017 loaded on my PC, but rarely use it now. They just left a bad taste in my mouth with their failed promises in that version. Instead they used them as baiting for purchasing the next upgrade. Then most of any support and learning is kept behind closed, locked doors, available only to those who succumb to their subscription. Most of their learning is repetitive, same ol' same ol' tutorials, coupled with more presets than carter's got pills.

Same here.
Moreover, the ON1 demosaicing quality is pretty low. That's something no subsequent action will iron out.
(Speaking of 5D3 raw files)

That is impressive.
