Just watched "The Salt Of the Earth", a riveting documentary of this photographer's life and work.

Interested in knowing more about his technique and processing, I've just searched POTN, but am amazed I can't find ANY mention of him. Is something wrong with my search parameters, or has there really never been any mention of his work in forums such as "Street", "People" and "Raw etc." ?

He is a fantastic photographer.

He shot on film until the Genesis project and there is a fine printer he works with.

To maintain the same printer, I think he would have his images transferred to film and then his printer would be able to make prints using the same traditional process.

I truly admire his work.
This book;

...has spent a lot of time on my coffee table.

I've got a few more as well.

If you haven't heard of him, Google Images his name and be prepared to be amazed.

Thanks, I had Googled him and found lots, but was just surprised he had apparently never been mentioned on POTN.

"Workers" is also my favorite.

He did come up often enough on Photo.net. This forum is less likely to cite the "greats" than some other spots on the net. It's a matter of the general areas of focus of a given forum. HCB comes up everywhere around street. Salgado and other documentary photographers much less so.

OK, I just tried a fresh POTN search for "Salgado", and found several mentions, so clearly I screwed up before when I searched. Thanks!

His book "Genesis" is now enroute from Amazon to my coffee table.

Here's a link to some great DIY coffee tables. I made one from oak and walnut similar to the 1st one pictured in high school wood shop. I originally was going to tile the center, but settled for smoked glass. It turned out great with a honey maple stain. Somehow my brother is using this table in his living room. One day I'll figure out how it got there.

Anyhow, here's the link.

Just received "Genesis". It's a REALLY heavy book, so I'm glad I have a heavy duty coffee table.

Magnificent images, but I am somewhat disappointed with the way many are bound into the book. The really large ones are split over two pages so that the middle of the image disappears into the centre crack (see below). Are all his books like this? I'd almost be tempted to disassemble the book if it wasn't so expensive.

Mine is the same, it also has some fold-out pages.

I opened it in the store and closed it almost instantly. I'm not into over processed digital images. It looks too amateurish.
It was not expensive book back then. Even less what it is now:

Sixty bucks (77 CAD) for four kilos of five hundreds HDRish images. It is not expensive. I paid more for GW book.
