Not exactly a takedown of a wildebeest or the usual NatGeo material, but cool, nonetheless. We watched a pride of lions take down a wayward Banded Mongoose, when we were in the Serengeti. Times are tough in the dry season and food is food.

Mongoose moves, out of frame... His first (and ultimately last) mistake

First chase - Mongoose escapes by mere centimetres

Full out chase when one finds him again....

Two of the cats going head to head chasing that mongoose:

Success - a small snack

My only wish was that it could have been closer. These were all shot at 400mm. Pretty exciting for a such a small "event", personally.

Great series; shows that it's the content rather than the technical perfection, most of the time. I particularly like the 'head to head' drag race to the target there :)

Awesome post. It's amazing how much energy predators will expend sometimes for a small morsel of food.

Things are tough during the dry season - any bit is worth it, I guess.
