I used to use Tamron caps, but I've migrated to Canon caps since they started making center pinch.

Canon caps have a bit of a recess within the pinch tabs that makes them significantly easier to handle. I've actually taken a Dremel to my remaining non-Canon center pinch caps to cut that recess into them.

Would you care to post a photo of your Dremel work?

What's wrong with the standard Canon pinch cap? Are they that much more expensive than third party caps?

They fall off!

I have 3 (2 x 77mm and 1 x 82 mm) that came with the lenses and, frankly, they are the worst lens caps I have yet encountered. I don't really understand why they are so bad as they look decently made and seem to fit well - but I put them on, check them, check them again and then they all off in my backpack! True this doesn't happen 100% of the time but it does (did) happen most of the time.

As you might have guessed they have been replaced with some cheapo Chinese copies that look the same, cost a fraction of the price and work perfectly. For reference the lenses concerned are my 16-35 F4 L IS, 24 - 70 F2.8 L Mk2 and 100-400 L IS Mk2.

Never had this trouble with the "Old" Canon caps, or any others for that matter.

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).
