Just wanted to share my excitement with people that would understand...
After shooting about 4 months with just my 50 1.8 (MK1) i have finally saved enough to get my Sigma 50-500!
As i shoot a fair bit of racing i can't wait to get out and utilise the reach to get some much better angles :-)

Is it the OS version? If so, it is a great lens!

My Amazon link shows (1) in stock at $1000 but note vendor warning (non-Amazon). Sigma seems to show it available but status is "backorder. See https://www.sigmaphoto.com …mm-f4-5-6-3-apo-dg-os-hsm (external link). Adorama also shows it as discontinued.

Cameta, which you can get to as a redirect from Sigma's website, shows it in stock for $1350. See https://www.cameta.com …non-EOS-Cameras-53977.cfm (external link).

So it is a canon non OS version, bought it 2nd hand from a camera shop, handsome fee of £300.
Took it out last night and was as great as i remember it being, Quick AF, heavy as heck but a great lens all the same.
I know it won't be as great as other lenses but when paying for a super tele with 10x range what do you expect.

I think judging by a thread I saw Sigma have replaced the 50-500 with a new 60-600. I saw the launch notification thread with a link to pictures, but nothing was showing on the Sigma websites, either here in the UK or the US site.

From what I have seen you pay no penalty for the 10X, at least for this range of Sigmas. You just get a slowish wide end for free.

Well i was thinking that i will get this lens as it is the most useful (full range zoom) and then will treat myself to a wide and then finally something like the 70-200 f4 for my media / journalistic work.

I just went to the Sigma website to look for this new lens but they do not list it yet.

It is available for pre-order at a few places.

You know, I bought a Sigma several years ago (150-500mm) & wasn't very pleased and ended up selling it. I decided that I wouldn't buy another. However, at that price I might have to give it another chance.

Congrats on the pickup! Go out and make some great photos, and have some fun! Nothing beats the feeling of adding a new lens to the bag and seeing what we can come home with. Please share some photos once you settle in with it!
