I'm an amatuer hobbyist shooting mainly a 7D MK2. I picked up an X-E2S on closeout and a 23mm 2.0 lens to go with it. I've been thrilled with the sharpness and quality of some adhoc portraits (outdoors natural light) and considering using it more for those shots.

Will the 56mm 1.2 really help compress the background and give me some flexibility for portraits? My go to combo up to now has been the 7D MK2 + 85mm 1.8. It's a bit of a pill to swallow dropping $900 more into the Fuji system since this is only a hobby but I'm seeing more keepers and sharper results to boot. It's a lighter kit to carry as well but that's not really an issue. I don't expect to replace the 7D for outdoor sports but might grab the Fuji more and more for the people pix.

All opinions appreciated.....

Yes. The 56mm is essentially a baby 85mm with the same F.O.V. and similar D.O.F. as an 85mm on full frame. It is one of Fuji's best lenses!

Probably my favourite people lens if I'm shooting a little tight, go for it.

Thanks Gents, it sounds like a good add to my kit. I shot some homecoming pix on the fly over the weekend and could have used it.....
