My uncle asked me to create a DVD slide show of photos from his 75th wedding anniversary party. But I'm finding this harder to do than expected. Walmart doesn't make slide shows. Walgreens does but charges a fortune.

There are a number of options online, but it's hard to tell which ones are worth taking a chance on and which are not.

I thought perhaps some of you have experience creating DVD slide shows and could steer me in the right direction.

Any ideas?

OpenShot appears to be fairly straight forward. I downloaded it to see what it was, and discovered as I suspected it is tied to Blender. Blender is a very powerful open-source 3D creation software, that comes with a very steep learning curve. You must download Blender to create titles in OpenShot. The pros for Openshot and Blender they're free.

I've been one of Corel's digital media beta-testers and their help forum admins for the past decade or so, before Corel purchased Ulead. Corel's VideoStudio is a nice program, not hard to learn, cost's about $80 (US). Not going to recommend it. You should be doing video editing on a more regular basis to spend your money on it. It was full of bugs when they released this last version. Us testers could not believe they would release it like it was.

The one I recommend is ProShow Gold (external link). For what you're wanting to do, produce a DVD Slideshow, it's what the program was designed to do. It's been around for a long time, and has IMHO, kicked several other video editor's arse's in slideshow creation and ease of use. Especially Corel's. It's only $69.

There are a lot of animation/video editor's around, free to cheap to expensive. You get what you pay for, but if you're not going to be doing a lot of video stuff, they wouldn't be cost effective. Here's one more suggestion, that is free and very, very powerful. It has a very, very, very steep learning curve and needs a little horsepower to work smoothly.

By your choice of wording "slide show" do you mean static images or video? If just static images, you could simply create the show in PowerPoint and burn a CD.

CD is not a DVD, uses totally different formatting. I'm not sure if PowerPoint can produce DVD compliant files. DVDs however uses what is old tech now, it's SD (standard definition). If his uncle has a 4k or High-Def television, DVD video will not look all that great.

We don't know what OS the OP uses, Mac or Windows. In Windows he could use the free Window Movie Maker to create or burn a DVD.

ProShow is the way to go, works great. I used to create a yearly slideshow for a local business for the corporate event, they loved them.

Very easy to do, actually easiest in Windows 7. Something like Win 10 needs a 3rd party package to convert the PP file to a Windows Media file. This maintains the transitions and animations. Step by step process is outlined at https://www.online-tech-tips.com …erpoint-to-dvd-flash-pdf/ (external link).

But as you've pointed out we don't know the OP's OS.

Another recommendation for ProShow. It's a great program and fairly easy to learn to do simple shows with. You can do more complex things as well.

I once did a custom transition in ProShow where my cat would "roll" across the frame to uncover the next photo.

Use Irfanview (a free program).

Under the File tab - click Slideshow.
You then burn the slideshow-file on a CD or DVD.

Many thanks to all who posted suggestions for my DVD slide show. After I made the initial post I realized that I already had iDVD on my Mac and could make a slide show DVD with it.

I managed to do complete the task a few minutes ago, but the iDVD software is difficult to understand and use.

I found no relevant tutorials on You Tube or through Apple for how to use iDVD to make a slide show and had to try it ten times before it worked.

iDVD might be a great program, but user friendly it is NOT!

For what it's worth, I'm using the latest version of iDVD.

If you're having similar problems, try the Magic iDVD option. That's how I finally got it to make a slide show.
