First thought: The Control Ring adapter feels like it's welded on once attached.
As someone who has done quite a bit of TC stacking and therefore experiences a lot of free play (2 TCs plus a 12mm tube between the TCs = 3 more locations where movement occurs compared to a single lens mounted) I really appreciate this tight fit.

I picked up an R and an adapter on a break from work, battery charging, first photos will be tomorrow.

I only have one peace of advice Dave... after the first day when you feel like you wonder what you we're thinking just step back and let the benefits of this camera sink in...

In the end I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.... Welcome aboard the R train.. hang on ... its gona be a bumpy ride.

Damn that's a good price. I haven't bought from them before but if I had the money I'd be picking it up right away!

I'm not expecting too many surprises. I had a 5D4 for 6 months / 20K shots. Sensor performance of the R is close enough to call equal.
I have had a Fuji X100S which has the ultimate Viewfinder - Hybrid. OVF, EVF or parts of both at the same time.
So expecting the EVF to be even better on the R but won't have hybrid.
Seeing exposure before / as shot taken is something I already appreciate with the Fuji.

Buying an R was something I was going to do but not at the AU$3300 price it has been since release.
Surprised it was available for $2700 so early, I thought it would be June EOFY before that happened.

Ya we all kinda know the sensor.. But I'm speaking to the camera itself.. It is not like the Dslr at all. It has its own ergonomics and feel.

As for price I got $300 off on black fridays deals.

My targets of fur the last while

When I bought my 100-400 I sold my 70-300 at the same time.

I love my 100-400 but kinda wish I had kept the 70-300 just for the versatilely.

Oh well...

I used the 100-400L this morning for a few snaps.. came right back in and put the 70-300L back on. it just likes the dark early morning. it seem brighter... I like it a lot on the R.

Compact lens + compact camera = Fun

This is the 100-400LII and 1.4III

I’m using the 100-400 II as well. I was wondering if anyone has any anecdotes when comparing this lens to the 400mm f4 DO version 1. I found it on sale for what I think is a decent price, but I also know it’s a pretty old lens. Haven’t found much info comparing these two online.

From what I've read I think you'll be a bit disappointed in the original 400DO. The 100-400 mkII seems to be just about as good as the DO II

Sounds in line with the little information I’ve been able to find. Thanks.

I went and tried the R out today at a camera store. Took a few shots with it but I can't download them to my MacBook, I just use the photo program on the MacBook. Does anyone know what I would need to do?

If you’re running OS Mojave you’re OK. Otherwise doesn’t seem to be supported.

Upgrade your OS.
