reply from tech support about banding
---------------

Dear Isaac

Thank you for providing the sample images Nick requested.

Looking at the pushed image I can see the banding you are referring to. Doing some testing here produced similar results when trying to push the exposure and gamma curves of an image too far, but as noted the banding only shows up when the exposure/gamma is pushed heavily.

I would like to take a look at the RAW file directly from the camera to take a more detailed look at the file. Please provide a link to the unaltered RAW file for review.

Also, what method is being used to transfer the files to your computer, and what software is being used to view/process the files?

I look forward to your reply with the information I have requested.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

William
Technical Support Representative

Have you tried processing the same file in DPP? Might just be worth a try...

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but this body ROCKS! I got an Instagram message yesterday from a fashion blogger who lives nearby, but just moved to NJ from AK and wanted to know my availability this week. We decided on today for our meetup and I was cold, so I don't know how she didn't freeze.

Anyway, looking trough the viewfinder, I go my exposure, added in the AD600 for fill, and we shot in broad sun that was pretty much on her face. This is SOOC, other than crop and straightening, for first photo, and slight edit to make the colors pop a little.!

My laptop does not like having 300 photos up in LR. I need to work on my workflow and sorting/culling in-camera, or take the laptop and do some intermediate work while out on vacation. However, here are a few more wild animals from the Big Island.

The wild/ stray cat situation on the island is tragic.

I'm impressed with the quality of the files coming out of the camera, but am still not convinced a 5D4 might not have served me better. I used he 5D3 to shoot a squirrel this afternoon and the BBF button on the two bodies are placed differently enough that I'd be concerned switching, especially since the 5D is used for my wife's races and I can't just reshoot if I miss the button. Pondering.

In themeantime though, I'll enjoy the R. Especially with the detail in the feathers and black fur.

I’ve done a couple so far and I am really impressed with it. Such a game changer for me from my 6D. Now I have to learn to take less photos because culling is a pain when they are almost all hitters.
