Okay...
Just got back in a little bit ago to put the R through its paces and, well, I basically fumbled my way through it. It was not too bad, just the process of learning a new camera. One thing right off the bat that really irked me was the touch focus point. I found my self moving the focus point trying to review images, or trying to use the R like my 5dmkII, use the * button to zoom in and what not.
Also, the EVF just felt unnatural outside. To me it felt more like the camera was designed for tripod use (I suppose most could use a tripod).
Right off the bat, I slapped my problematic 300mm f/4L is on the camera and tried to find some deer. I am not much of a wildlife photographer. Last attempts with this lens (and 1.4x extender II) on the 80D showed the lens seemed to front focus. First wild life shots with this lens on the R and looking at the back of the camera, showed disappointment again. Now I am wondering if this is due to not knowing the lens and body. Also not being close enough for the AF to focus where I wanted (or maybe I hit the wrong focus area. Also I did not think to set the camera to AF servo, I had it on one shot.
Did I mention I don't do a lot of wildlife photography LOL.
Anyway, in a new area I found some deer that was closer and a bit more open, and slapped the 1.4x extender on it just to see.
I managed to get a couple shots.
So far, I think I need to spend more time with the camera. Perhaps with a tripod, slowing down some. The images did not seem to need a whole lot of tweaking. It is a little bit different shooting with this body then my 5dmkII and 80D. I have also noted I have taken up square crops. Wildlife photography is a bit of a challenge. I am used to wide angle landscapes and the like. This 300mm has sat in my bag for the most part unused since I have had it.
